Who We Are: |
Communities In Schools (CIS)
is the nation’s largest
dropout prevention
organization. For 30 years,
CIS has remained focused on
helping kids who are at risk
of dropping out stay in
school and prepare for life
by identifying and
addressing the unmet needs
of students that, when left
unanswered, contribute to
the dropout rate.
Communities In Schools of
New Jersey (CISNJ) is the
state affiliate of CIS which
now serves almost two
million children in 2,600
sites in 31 states. Eighteen
years ago, CISNJ started as
a single school-based
project at Central High
School in Newark, NJ. Today,
CISNJ programs provide
access to services to more
than 15,000 children at 20
sites, in six school
districts: Newark, Passaic,
Millville, Port Norris,
Woodbine and Camden.
Communities In Schools
offers a proven long-term
comprehensive framework to
help children succeed and
stay in school. By
establishing a link between
teachers, principals,
parents, local service
providers, businesses and
institutions of higher
learning, CIS brokers and
coordinates support services
including; after school
programs, tutoring,
mentoring, job internships,
mental health counseling,
parental involvement
activities, and arts and
enrichment programs. |
