Brooklyn , N.Y. – The Academy of Hospitality & Tourism (AOHT) celebrated its 20th anniversary Tuesday evening at The Best of New York: Brooklyn benefit dinner. The event, held at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge, paid tribute to the contributions of public and private entities to the development of Brooklyn and the New York City tourism industry. Tiki Barber, NBC correspondent, analyst, and former New York Giants star running back, officiated the ceremony. Jonathan M. Tisch, Chairman & CEO of Loews Hotels, served as Honorary Dinner Chairman. Honored for their contributions, and recipients of The Best of New York: Brooklyn Awards were: Marty Markowitz, Brooklyn Borough President; Joshua Muss, President & CEO of Muss Development Company, and the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge. Michael Leven, a 45-year hotel industry veteran and board member of The Marcus Institute, was awarded this year's AOHT Lifetime Achievement Award.

Launched in 1987, The Academy of Hospitality and Tourism is a public/private partnership, and operates under the auspices of the New York City Department of Education and the National Academy Foundation (NAF). The Academy operates within a school curriculum, offering industry-specific education on all facets of the travel industry, including economic and social concepts related to travel and tourism.
Ten schools throughout all five boroughs are involved in the program that is two to four years in length. Approximately 800 students are enrolled. Proceeds from The Best of New York: Brooklyn will benefit a variety of AOHT's programs including funding of teacher training, classroom materials, and computer hardware.
