Celebrations continue to abound up and down the east coast extending through America's heartland and across the nation in celebration of Park Avenue Potluck, the hugely successful cookbook by The Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) and New York Times food & wine contributor Florence Fabricant. Now in its third printing since its national release by Rizzoli International Publications, Inc. in October 2007, the authors have come up with the winning recipe for Park Avenue Potluck, a compilation of over 100 easy and elegant recipes contributed by members and friends of The Society of MSKCC. In December, The New York Times recognized Park Avenue Potluck as one of the "25 Most Notable Cookbooks of 2007."
Coco Kopelman, a Past President of The Society who seeded the cookbook idea and shares three of her signature recipes, sums up the secret ingredient to the book's popularity with her entertaining tip, "… I believe food is love." The cookbook was made possible by the generous underwriting of Town & Country's Pamela Fiori and TurboChef, who believed in Park Avenue Potluck from the beginning and underwrote production costs. As a great testament to the book's universal appeal, potluck-themed dinners are popping up all over America in celebration of the cookbook and cancer survivorship. "We are so grateful that our recipes are warming the hearts of people all over America, and the wonderful response also reaffirms the Center's and the book's overriding message of hope," said Leslie Jones, President of The Society of MSKCC.
On February 6th, Wendy Carduner, Chairman of Doubles, opened the doors to the private club at the Sherry Netherland Hotel located at 59th and Fifth to Doubles members, friends, family and other supporters of The Society of MSKCC, were feted with a Park Avenue Potluck dinner, with recipes from the book prepared by Executive Chef Steven Mellina. For those who are looking for the perfect idea for upcoming birthday, holiday and hostess gifts, members of The Society signed books sold by Rizzoli New York at the dinner.
Society President Leslie Jones joined members of the Cookbook Committee who created and produced the cookbook on behalf of The Society of MSKCC including Society VP Leslie Perkin and board members Kelly Forsberg, Barbara Tollis, and Catherine Carey. Other Cookbook Committee members who serve on the Cookbook Committee are Society board members Muffie Potter Aston and Jamee Gregory; Society Associates Wendy Arriz, Chesie Breen and Sarah Powers; and Barbara McLaughlin.
