For the fourth year, the palm Beach Zoo held it’s annual
fundraising dinner dance at Mar-a-Lago on Friday, January
25th.
Honorary Chair Tippi Hedren and Chair Frances Hayward, both
avid animal advocates, welcomed more than 450 guests to the
sold out event, one of the most glamorous of the palm Beach
social season, which raised in excess of seven hundred
thousand dollars.
The theme this year was “The Birds” and there were an
abundance, several of which were on display as guests
mingled for cocktails around the beautiful swimming pool,
covered by a silver marquee, adding to the glamour and
beauty of the surroundings.
There was a collective ‘gasp’ of appreciation as guests were
ushered into the Ballroom, which thanks to Bruce Sutka was
transformed
into a jungle paradise with groupings of different species
of birds on every table. One of the ‘highlights’ of Ms.
Hedren’s table was inspired by her role in Alfred
Hitchcock’s “The Birds,” which featured ‘black crows” as the
centerpiece. Ms. Hedren, Ms. Hayward and Donald and Melania
Trump were busy chatting as these lifelike birds quietly
ease dropped from their place in the center of the table.
Event planner Renee Wood forgo the typical dinner fare an
opted for an exquisitely cooked ‘pot roast’ and plates were
just short of literally being ‘licked clean...” the ‘empty
plate club’ admonished of childhood definitely the order of
the evening...
Guests danced the night away to the beautiful sounds of the
Bob Hardwick Orchestra who presented jus the right
combination
of old standards, current rock favorites and everything in
between. Ms. Hedren, whose foundation “Barck” has helped
thousands
of displaced Big Cats, expressed her delight and honor at
being part of an event celebrating as wonderful an
organization as the
Palm Beach Zoo as well as thanking her ‘team’ - Vice Chairs
Tom Quick and Susan Malloy, Co-Chairs Amanda Schumacher and
Suzette Smith and Renee Wood.
The evening benefits what has become a very important
addition to the community, hosting hundreds of thousands of
visitors
each year as well as housing a veterinary hospital and a
myriad of educational program’s dealing with our precious
wildlife.
