Food For The Poor’s 2008 Fine Wines &
Hidden Treasures - The Best of Palm Beach gala have
been used to transform Gordon’s Fishing Village
in Bluefields, Jamaica, into a vibrant community
brimming with hope and human dignity. Food For The Poor
has finished the construction of 50 additional
much-needed housing units and sanitation for the
residents of the fishing village, a women’s fishery
project and a school for 80 children.
“The Alsie
Brown Early Childhood Institute was built in honor of
Robert G. and Arlette Gordon,” said Angel Aloma,
executive director of Food For The Poor. “For more than
three years The Gordon’s have been passionate
ambassadors for Food For The Poor’s Palm Beach gala, and
compassionate advocates for the destitute, who have no
voice.”
Education
is the beginning of the end of poverty. For more than 60
years, the Alsie Brown Early Childhood Institute has
taught children ages 2 - 6 years old the basic learning
blocks and behaviors that will help prepare the young
students for Primary School. The structure was in
deplorable condition and the administration was fearful
that the building might collapse on the students.
