The Barbara Sears Nelson
collection was inspired 20 years ago while the designer was
living in Aspen, Colorado, land of sparkle! Intrigued
by fiber optics and high fashion, Barbara began designing
accessories that quenched her thirst for shine! The Barbara
Sears Nelson collection is designed using the finest Italian
elements: fabric woven with fiber optics – bags that
illuminate, leather and hardware, as well as the best in
craftsmanship. (www.BarbaraSearsNelson.com)
Betty Lou Jewels’
first-ever handcrafted pendant collection, BLISS,
says, “I’m happy to be me.” The bold, modern pieces found in
the BLISS collection cleverly come in two styles: the
undulating lines of Wavy and the clean linear lines of Calm;
four shapes: the loving Heart, the lucky Clover, the
Circle of life and the symbol of birth, the Oval; and in
five colors: Luna Silver, Belize Blue, Sunset Orange,
Flora Green and Provence Purple. Each pendant is made up of
brilliant cut diamonds set in vibrantly colored enamel, and
women can choose the unique style, shape and color that
express their happiness. (www.bettyloujewels.com)
emeDesigns,
under the label of emeD, is
Erica Mae and Shelli’s award winning couture fashion
collection for real life and stage. The Little Black Dress
has become their calling card by client response, but their
true passion is creating a customized look for the client
standing in front of them, with the belief that “women
should feel as beautiful in their clothes as they look.” The
external design is only one piece to the puzzle. The time
spent on the lining is the true stamp of an emeDesign
creation. The emeD Studio is located in Davenport, Iowa in
the Bucktown Center for the Arts.
Erica is a 2003 graduate of the Illinois Institute of
Art in Chicago.
For Fall 2009 Eenamaria
brings us the Chelsea Boi Collection. This Mondrian
inspired line begged the name Chelsea as a nod to the
neighborhood's colorful and vibrant scene. For decades,
Manhattan’s literati and contemporary art movers have made
Chelsea their home. Boi is a reference to the
1960's Page Boy haircut, made famous by British 'it' girl
and international supermodel, Twiggy.
Crafted from patent vinyl, the bags range in
functionality from the weekend carry-all, to the
keys-and-purse-only clutch. With Eenamaria, a woman can
outfit her entire wardrobe around one fabulous bag, and she
will do so with a distinctively modern charm. (www.eenamaria.com)
Influenced by cultural trends,
technological innovations, and shifts in social
consciousness, the Nadia Nour collection reflects the
tides of change. Created
for women who defy trends, expressing themselves through
their distinctive sense of style, Nadia Nour apparel is
designed to inspire a sense of self-assurance and vitality
in the women who wear it.
Driven by Nadia’s sophisticated, playful, and bold
vision, the collection achieves a timeless aesthetic through
its integration of classic with experimental elements.
Produced exclusively in the Manhattan garment district,
Nadia Nour apparel features a flattering fit, flawlessly
constructed using vibrantly dyed organic silks and cottons.

In November 2008, womenswear
designer Vaughn Jereaux won the Race to Be
Creative Entrepreneurial Challenge hosted by Russell
Simmons. Jereuax was selected from hundreds of contestants
from more than 22 states and the United Kingdom.
Vaughn has since partnered with Donatemydress.org and
the Daily News, to outfit New York City high school seniors
of underprivileged means with donated prom dresses. Of his
recent successes, Vaughn says: “I completed the Race to Be
competition with a greater appreciation for the fashion
industry and a superior understanding of the fundamentals of
what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur. Winning the
competition was gratifying as it validated my talent and
business sensibilities. It’s a profound honor to have won
the opportunity to showcase my collection in Nolcha’s
Fashion Week Designer Exhibition. To be recognized,
respected and given exposure as an emerging designer is the
highlight of my career thus far. I will be forever grateful
and appreciative of this incredible opportunity.” (www.vjcollection.com)
Nolcha Fashion Week exists as a
platform to support young entrepreneurial talent in fashion
design, but Nolcha would not be successful in their efforts
to help designers without their gracious sponsors. This
year’s sponsors include Solerra (www.solerra.com),
Stylecaster (www.stylecaster.com),
Peter Lik Gallery (www.peterlik.com),
Saaga Vodka, Luprock.com, and The Plaza Beauty by Warren
Tricomi. All Nolcha at The Plaza guests will leave with gift
bags sponsored by SARAR, an upscale European Men Suits and
Women’s Wear retailer.
