When Chairman Gale S. Brophy decided to honor
many of her friends who had chaired events and made a difference
in Palm Beach's charity world at a luncheon for Wheels for Kids
she never dreamed the results would be so fantastic. As Ms.
Brophy finished thanking the guests and special supporters of
the event, Mrs. Florence de George unexpectedly announced from
her table that she was donating $50,000 for wheelchairs!
Then Mrs. de George was introduced to the Rodriguez family who
will receive one of the customized strollers she made possible.
Carlos Rodriguez is a Palm Beach Police Officer with a two-year
old daughter with cerebal palsy. "I was brought to tears by
Mrs. de George's generosity and the overwhelming support of
everyone involved with this wonderful event!" stated Denise
Jungbert, President and Founder of Wheels for Kids.
"I am proud to support Wheels For Kids. This organizations is
totally run by volunteers and has no administrative costs. That
means that every dollar raised goes to purchase customized
wheelchairs and strollers. It was very touching to see the two
families receive their wheelchairs at the luncheon," said
Gale S. Brophy.
Wheels For Kids is a local Palm Beach non-profit organization
founded by Denise Jungbert because of her personal experiences
and challenges acquiring customized wheelchairs for her
daughter, Ashlee, who was born with cerebal palsy. Many working
families with children who have permanent physical disabilities
do not
qualify for government or private subsidies, but cannot afford
the much needed wheelchairs. Wheels For Kids mission is to
improve the quality of life of deserving families by providing
customized mobility devices.
The luncheon was held February 3rd at Cafe Boulud in Palm
Beach. The day was perfect, the auction was beautiful, the food
and service was excellent, the guests had lots of time to mingle
and chat, the speakers were brief, and every guest left feeling
warm inside about helping such a wonderful cause.
