On Friday, February 9th, 2007, Designers for Darfur, founded
by designer Malcolm Harris and model Lydia Hearst in
association with Fashion Television and presenting sponsor
Steve Madden, hosted a charity fashion show at the Roseland
Ballroom in New York City aimed to raise funds and awareness
on behalf of the Save Darfur Coalition.
For this amazing event nearly 100 of America’s leading
designers, including Marc Jacobs, Joanna Mastroianni, Anait
Bian, Jackie Rogers, Anand Jon, Traver Rains and Richie Rich
and Donna Karan, created one of a kind ensembles in Red,
Yellow, Green or Black (or any combination of these symbolic
colors of Africa) to be featured in the show. The fashion
industry’s top models, hair and make-up artists as well as
wardrobe stylists also donated their time, talent and
assistance to the cause.
Patti LaBelle, Fonzworth Bentley, Michelle Rodriguez, Fabiola
Beracasa, Christy Scott Cashman, Robert Ver di, Carol Alt,
Janice Combs, Oksana Baul, Melissa Berkelhammer, Alison
Minton,
Kathleen Giordano, Dr. Eric Berger, Julie Haus and Collette
were all on hand to show their support and commitment toward
ending the genocide currently taking place in Darfur.
All of the donated looks will be auctioned off on eBay at
www.ebay.com/designersfordarfur starting February 12th,
2007, rotating at intervals of 30 ensembles. The second
interval of ensembles will go up for auction on February 23rd,
2007. 100% of the proceeds will go to the Save Darfur
Coalition.
