Our projects focus on helping some of the most disadvantaged, disenfranchised and socially excluded children and young people in Africa. The children we work with come from backgrounds of abject poverty, family breakdown and abuse - both verbal and physical. They are in conflict with the law, living and working in the streets and have little or no access to formal education. Many resort to substance abuse as a means of escaping the cold and hunger which pervade their daily lives. We believe that these children and young people have the capacity to change their own lives for the better, and it is our role to nurture this process. AfCiC works alongside the children and young people, helping to transform them into responsible individuals and productive members of their community, and empowering them to make positive decisions about their futures.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency will be making a decision on the ultimate clean up plan for this Ringwood Mines/Landfill Superfund Site. This tragic saga was investigated in HBO’s new documentary, “Mann v. Ford,” which revealed that the community’s devastating health impacts continue, with the cancer-causing dioxin at high levels in residents’ attics and neighboring mines filled with huge quantities of toxic waste, just upstream from the drinking water source for over one million people. Don’t let Ford Motor Company get away with capping the site and leaving thousands of tons of paint sludge behind! Tell USEPA to make Ford completely clean up the site! Take action now! Additional Focus Area(s): Promoting a culture of peace, interfaith and inter-cultural harmony through the teaching of the Golden Role which says " Treat others the way you want to be treated"
Actions to Take: To live according to the teaching of the Golden Rule
Comments: Dear Citizens of the world On the occasion of the celebration of the 11 Days of a Global Unity, I send you greetings of peace, light and best wishes. As we are celebrating these Global Unity Days, I pray for the creator of the universe to open our hearts and minds to understand the uniqueness of each one of us and to pour out the spirit of unconditional love, Compassion and to understand and fully embrace the idea that, though we are people from different faiths, traditions, culture and color we all are part of one human family with the common principle of the Golden Rule. One of the most important missions for humanity at this stage must be to bring people together with the shared goal of creating a peaceful world for all to live in. Our world is coming together and as such all nations are our close neighbors and our wellbeing increasingly depends on how well we interact and live together with others based on the teaching of the Golden Rule which says “ Treat others the way you want to be treated” In this interrelated and globalized world we need the Golden Rule more than ever as it is a fundamental human value needed today as the basis for co-existence. We need to make it the first article of our faith and the last article of our creed as the Golden Rule is not an option – it’s the key to our common survival. The Golden Rule is the way to manifest world interfaith harmony in the world and it is one practical action that leads us from war to peace, from killing each other to co-existence, from disrespect to honoring each other, from hate to love, from despair to hope, from darkness to light, from being selfish to living for the sake of others and from revenge to forgiveness. Each and every one of us needs to practice and exert all our effort to be a peaceful person. We need to acknowledge that peace is only possible in the world when each and every one of us start to make peace within ourselves, families and in our respective communities. Each of us needs to commit ourselves as best as we can to become a non-violent and make personal pledges for peace. We need to focus on what we can do in a practical term to change the things we can change than talking about things we cannot change. And I am happy to be part of a movement like United Religions Initiative and Interfaith Peace-building Initiative and to be able to work with people like you from all over the world who decide to be part of the solution and take concrete action to bring positive change in the world by living according to the value of Golden Rule and Compassion for all. By promoting interfaith cooperation and engaging in inter-religious constructive dialogue we learn to respect one another. We learn to appreciate both our differences and the common values that bind us to one another like the Golden Rule. We need to recognize pluralism and respect diversity. Pluralism is an obvious fact of life. As it is has been stated mutual understanding is no longer a luxury but an absolute prerequisite for peace and co-existence in the world. If we truly want to open a new chapter in human history and see a new world based on a culture of peace and social justice, I believe it is high time to promote the Golden Rule throughout the world as it is a fundamental principle that addresses critical issues such as democracy, human rights, respect for each other, gender equity, social development, interfaith harmony, constructive dialogue among nations, violent conflict prevention and building right human relationships. It is with this core values in mind that in 2007 through the Interfaith Peace-building Initiative (IPI) we declared April 5 as a “Golden Rule Day” and called upon all citizens of the world, religious leaders of the world, mayors of the world, heads of state of the world, the United Nations, the African Union, the European Union, the League of Arab States, interfaith organizations, schools, higher learning institutions, the business community and civil society to join IPI in proclaiming this day as International Golden Rule Day and to live accordingly to make this world a better and ethical place for all. Currently I am working to get the United Nations to proclaim the Golden Rule Day. In addition to this we also started in 2007 a Golden Rule Goodwill Ambassador program to highlight the need for the Golden Rule in the world to promote a culture of peace, interfaith harmony and a Global Ethic. Since 2007 every year we honor an individual or organization with Golden Rule Medal and appoint Goodwill Ambassador. Let us be instruments of peace and a living example of the teaching of the Golden Rule. Let us walk the talk by taking practical action in supporting the initiative of Karen Armstrong Charter for Compassion which is the base for the Golden Rule. May Peace, Golden Rule and Compassion Prevail in our Heart, Mind, Family, Community, Country and the World. In Peace and Gratitude Ambassador Mussie Hailu Board Chairman of Interfaith Peace-building Initiative

Actions to Take: All are welcome to come to our FIRST ANNUAL CLEAR CREEK FESTIVAL FOR PEACE AND FREEDOM - September 3rd through September 11th, 2011 The Festival will be broadcast on Peace Day TV, the United Nations "Peace Day" site, and with numerous other collaborators allowing the event to reach a combined viewing audience of 200 million. The RockPile Amphitheatre is located on State Road 99 and Clear Creek, just a few miles southeast of Winslow, Arizona. Our goal is to work with the Clear Creek Association for the Arts, Inc. (a not for profit organization) to create an inclusive center for the arts. Here not only will we be able to offer entertainment via the performing arts, but show the art of our region to the world. The artists will reach out to educate the next generation of artists. Eventually, we hope to be a benefit to the region, offering our services to create a tourism base that will drive the economy. What we are endeavoring to do will take community involvement at all levels to guarantee success. Lend a hand, and build a future for our area. 50% of the net profit will go directly into the surrounding community to enhance the quality of life of those in need, and sponsor the arts. Ivan Sidney has come on board to lend a hand, along with the Hopi representatives for tourism. Ivan was Tribal Chairman of the Hopi Tribe at one time, and is well connected in the community. He, also, plays with "The Clansmen" band, and will be on stage at the Festival. With Ivan many bridges came into place. Whereas, the Hopi were already playing a small part in the festival, now they will play a major roll. Everything is as it should be. My personal thanks go out to Alford "Al" Jackson, Alan Moore of Musicians and Artists for Peace, Nashville Musicians and Artists for Peace, Peace Day TV, Stephen Fantl, Executive Director, Wild Oats Records, Steve Haggard, Heidi Little, Essra Mohawk, Garry Jackson, Randall Merryman, Todd Roth, and numerous others for their help and advise on this project. I would also like to acknowledge Winslow City Councilman Tom Chacon for his advice and help, and Navajo County District III Supervisor, J. R. DeSpain for the same. With all of this help, and the miraculous events that have helped create The RockPile Amphitheatre, we can only succeed! If I have forgotten someone I do apologize, but this list will grow as we work towards the festival. Network of Spiritual Progressives - NYC chapter
http://spiritualprogressives.org

Mission & Activitiies: The Network of Spiritual Progressives welcomes secular humanists, atheists and people who are “spiritual but not religious” as well as people from every religious community who share the values of love, generosity, creativity, wonder and a commitment to respect one another. Spirituality is personal but not a private matter; it is about how we treat each other and how we live our lives. OUR VALUES AND VISION We recognize that our well being depends on the well-being of everyone else on the planet and the well being of the Earth. We seek a world in which all of life is shaped by peace, fairness, environmental sanity, love, care for one another, care for the Earth, generosity, compassion, respect for diversity and differences, and celebration of the miraculous universe shape. To realize such a world, we seek a New Bottom Line so that institutions, corporations, social practices, government policies, our educational system, our legal system, our medical system and even our personal behavior is judged efficient, rational and productive to the extent that each one maximizes love, caring, kindness, generosity, ethical and ecologically sensitive behavior and enhances both our capacity to respond to others as embodiments of the sacred and to the universe with awe, wonder, and radical amazement at the grandeur and mystery of all being. We understand that getting these kinds of changes requires a deep understanding of the individualism, materialism and ethos of “looking out for number one” that is daily infused into people by our need to adjust our consciousness to the dynamics of the world of work where we make a living for ourselves and families, and by the cheerleaders for the established order who shape our educational and media institutions. Yet we also know that there is a deep yearning in most people for a world of love and real human connection, a yearning for a meaning to life that transcends material well-being and ties us to the ongoing unfolding of spirit and consciousness and to the inherent interdependence and love that permeates and inspires all being. We affirm this hunger for meaning and purpose in life, and we endeavor to help secular progressives understand the vital importance of explicitly addressing those yearnings which are at this point largely being addressed (although in distorted form) only by the most ultra-nationalist, materialist and militarist forces in our society. We are optimistic that this hunger for authentic being can empower a majority of people in the United States and in the world to break out of the illusions that we are fed daily by the powerful. We exist to reassure people that as they take steps in that direction, and inevitably face critiques from others who tell them that their desire for a world of love and generosity is a utopian illusion that is totally “unrealistic,” they will be able to find support from a group of spiritual progressives who realize that the goal is not to be “realistic” and accommodate to “what is,” but rather to transform ‘what is’ into what is actually needed – environmental sanity, fairness, non-violence and love – in order for us and the Earth to survive in the 21st century. By whatever name you call the sacred, or whether for you the sacred has no name, if you share the values at the heart of the Network of Spiritual Progressives, you’re welcome here.

Orphans for Christ in Africa
http://orphansforchristinafrica.giving.officelive.com

Mission & Activitiies: Orphans for Christ in Africa (OCA), is non-sectarian, non-denominational Christian Childcare and youth Development Organisation (NGO), supporting orphans, vulnerable children and disadvantaged youth and their communities in Uganda. We seek to stand as a voice for the parentless children & youth in communities all over Uganda. OCA cares for orphans and disadvantaged children and youth in orphanages, children’s homes and through foster family care programmes. OCA depends entirely on the generous support from private individual, families, volunteers, organisations, foundations, friends and well-wishers from all over the world. Mission: Orphans for Christ in Africa exists with a mission to rescue disadvantaged children, releasing them from the bondage of poverty and misery, improving their physical well-being, enhancing their education opportunities, providing safe them shelter and granting each one equal opportunity to discover, explore, develop and realize their God-given full potential. Holistic Approach to Child Care & Support: OCA defines an orphan as a child who has lost either one or both parents. This broader definition was adopted by UNICEF in response to the AIDS pandemic and highlights the plight of impoverished children with one remaining parent who may have difficulty providing for them. The terms "single orphan" and "double orphan" are used to provide clarity when referring to orphans who have lost one parent and both parents respectively. All OCA staff and volunteers treat all children under our care with love and respect just as they would their own children. OCA does not tolerate any emotional, verbal, physical and/or sexual abuse of children. We endeavour to protect all children under our care from any form of abuse to the best of our ability. We report to the proper authorities any allegations of child abuse that come to our attention We endeavour to meet both physical and spiritual needs of all children and youth under our care as part of our holistic approach to child support. We provide shelter in orphanages for homeless children , early childhood education, food and clothing, health care, life skills and vocational training, Computer & ICT Skill training, child sponsorships , in-kind support, and spiritual teaching, to orphans, vulnerable disadvantaged children ages 2-12 years, and disadvantaged youth ages 13-17 years, both boys and girls. Our Spiritual Nourishment and Development OCA is a non-sectarian, non-denominational, Evangelical Christian organisation, duly registered in Uganda as a Christian NGO. OCA subscribes to the Historical Evangelical Christian Faith, as contained in both the Old and New Testament Scriptures (the Holy Bible). We thus, work in partnership with all other Evangelical Christian Churches, organizations and groups from around the world. (Our Statement of Faith can be availed to you on request). We get involved in the spiritual work providing spiritual nourishment and development to children and youth and all people OCA ministers to in the hope that each one will enter into a personal commitment and intimate relationship with the Lord. This we do through daily time of prayer, Bible reading and worship, Bible clubs, music dance and drama activities, Bible study fellowships, weekend Bible clubs, Sunday worship services, and by sharing the gospel one-on-one and with groups in communities where we work and through sports evangelism. Current Orphan Care Programmes & Projects: In 2011/2012, OCA is focusing resources in the following areas of Great Need: Orphanages & Children’s Homes OCA runs Tororo Children's Home, with 60 orphans ages 3-12 years, in Tororo town, and Kamwokya Child Support Centre, supporting another 60 orphans ages 3-12, in Kamwokya Slum of Kampala city. The centers provide loving and safe environment for the children to live an attend school. Financial support helps provide for the daily meals for the children of at least 3 meals per day, medical care, beddings, clothing, shoes, and recreational activities. Child Sponsorship Through the help of child sponsors, and donors, we provide educational sponsorship to school age children: paying for their school fees, school uniforms, supplies and equipment, meals at school and transportation to and from school. Donors can offer to sponsor a child or a number of children in school for a year or two more years, and/or offer to provide long-term sponsorship to a particular child or children of your choice. Donors can also offer to provide financial and /or material support for an entire orphanage(s). Life Skills and Vocational Training Currently, OCA is running two Computer & ICT skills training Centres, one in Kampala and another in Tororo Centers. The ICT Skills training provides ICT Skills in Microsoft Office Programs (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher), and communications skills covering Internet and the World Wide Webb, Web designing and development, computer repair and maintenance, among others. Our future plan is to include carpentry and joinery skills, tailoring and dressmaking skills, catering skills, and music, dance and drama skills. Donors can offer to provide funding to sponsor an individual child/youth to acquire these skills or offer to support several children or sponsor a full class of 25 students to learn ICT skills for a one 4-months semester training program. Hope for Kids Christmas Gift Celebrations: Each year, OCA hold an annual Hope for Kids Christmas Gifts Party celebration that take place every December 23, a few days before Christmas. The objective of this project is to provide tangible Christmas gifts and presents to disadvantaged children at the orphanages to enable them share in the joy and blessing of Christmas. Together we can create a Politics of Trust.
Actions to Take: We ask that you hold your/our elected officials to higher standard of democratic representation. We find ourselves boasting of our new economy, cherishing our new demography, and relishing in our new consciousness while we find ourselves stuck with the same old politics: cynical and controlling, top-down and condescending, divisive and dysfunctional.

World Peace Experiment
http://onlyloveprevails.org

Mission & Activitiies: We are seeking 80,000 people who are willing to be part of an experiment to see if we can shift the world's perception of "good and evil" to a perception of love. It doesn't cost any money and takes only seconds a day. We believe we are all one mind and that if enough people (critical mass) could shift their own personal perception—change their minds—about the existence of evil, then the whole planet could shift into a perception of love. The experiment is similar to that described as the "hundreth monkey" effect. We also believe that world peace begins with each individual achieving a state of peace within themselves. We can begin to do that for ourselves by becoming aware of the "negative" influences in our lives and choosing consciously to eliminate or shift those influences.
Main Focus Area: Theme 1 – Unity
Other Focus Area(s): Theme 11 – The International Day of Peace

Actions to Take: Sign up to participate in the World Peace Experiment and help us reach our goal of 80,000 people willing to co-create, through a shift in consciousness, a sustainable, harmonious world of peace where Only Love Prevails.
Comments: Many of you have written us asking how we came up with the figure of 80,000 people. Here is our explanation: Physicists tell us that according to the laws of wave mechanics, the intensity of any kind of waves that are in phase with each other is the square of the sum of the waves. In other words, two waves added together are four times as intense as one wave, ten waves are one hundred times as intense, etc. Since thought is energy, and all energy occurs as waves we believe that 80,000 people all thinking the same thing together are as powerful, in terms of creating the reality that we all share, as the random chaotic thought of the 6.4 billion people (80,000 times 80,000) that will soon inhabit the planet. Therefore, 80,000 people who believe that only love prevails, will create a laser of intent that will change the planetary reality.

Comments: Blissings & Gratitude to all who receive this message, for you are privileged, and now you have responsibility. "If we do not understand that war is never a war primarily against other nations but primarily against the common people in the home country, we cannot effectively put a stop to it. War impoverishes everyone except a small ruling clique in each country. The common people have the strength to stop a war any time. Only instilled confusion to keep us thinking that we are a national body instead of the highly oppressive class structure that is the reality, only this and the patterns of powerlessness have kept us from stopping wars that firmly. We, the working-class, farmers, intellectuals, middle-class, and the owning-class individuals who have transcended their class position to join us, must come to understand the class nature of war, or we can once again be led by the nose, in the name of patriotism, to our own destruction." -Harvey Jackins, The Reclaiming of Power, pg 305, © 1983
