Guild Hall’s prestigious Academy of the Arts celebrated their
22nd Annual Lifetime Achievement Awards on Monday, March 19 th,
2007 at a dazzling gala at the Rainbow Room in New York City.
The evening of artistic achievement recognized and honored:
* Artist John Chamberlain for Visual Arts,
* The New Yorker architecture critic and author Paul
Goldberger
for Literary Arts
* Academy Award Winning actress Mercedes Ruehl for Performing
Arts
* Philanthropist and producer Roy Furman
The evening was emceed by talented writer and director
Marshall Brickman, who kept guests entertained with his
humorous take of the Hampton's & the night's honorees.
Gala Co-Chairs: Maureen Bluedorn, Nina Gillman, Susan and
Morris Mark, Ruth Mueller, Pamela and Edward Pantzer, Joan and
Michael Steinberg, Judith and Berton Steir, Rebecca Cooper and
Michael Waldman. Renee Steinberg served as Journal Dinner
Chair.
Hall’s Academy of the Arts was formed in 1985. Award
recipients have been selected by ballot by the entire Academy
membership. The membership has grown to over 200
internationally recognized artists. Previous Lifetime honorees
include: Alan Alda, Willem de Kooning, Kurt Vonnegut, Ben
Bradlee, Alec Baldwin, April Gornik,
Stephen Spielberg, Betty Freidan, Billy Joel, Lauren Bacall,
Paul Simon, Wendy Wasserstein and many others in the fields of
visual arts, literar y arts and performing arts.
Guild Hall, located in East Hampton, NY, is a unique center in
the United States because it provides two arts forms under one
roof. Guild hall has a fine arts museum and a performing arts
theater. It also has an educational Department and community
meeting place? all in one cultural institution. Since 1931,
Guild Hall has engaged the community in cultural events that
embrace all the arts and has been an elegant home to the
artistic community.
Guild Hall and its John Drew Theater have nurtured a unique
artistic community since 1931. Artists, writers, performers
and directors from Helen Hayes and Jackson Pollack to Kurt
Vonnegut and Alec Baldwin have found a place to showcase
their work, workshop new pieces and build their repertoires.
