Celebrating the Music of America
What distinguishes the Palm Beach Pops orchestra
is that Bob Lappin builds his repertoire around
the music from The Great American Songbook,
which
refers to the music of Broadway, the Hollywood
musical and Tin Pan Alley, including other
genres jazz, big band, ragtime, blues and swing.
Unlike other “books” – this one is a
never-ending story. Lappin and the Pops continue
to tell the story, adding new chapters and
characters through each orchestral performance.
Distinguished alumni of Bob Lappin and The Palm
Beach Pops include Mel
Tormé, The Count Basie Orchestra, Kenny Rogers,
Maureen McGovern, Ricky Skaggs, Patti Austin,
Diahann Carroll, Jack Jones, Carol Lawrence, Vic
Damone, Lena Horne, Doc Severinsen, Keely Smith,
John and Bucky Pizzarelli, and The Mills
Brothers… just to name a few. The late Mel Tormé
summed it up this way, “Bob Lappin and the
glorious Palm Beach Pops… one of the greatest
orchestras I have ever worked with in my life!
Absolutely marvelous!”
