Paint the Town Pink

Darien, New Canaan and Stamford Residents
to Create a “Mile of Pink”

Breast Cancer Survivors & Supporters Kick Off
Paint the Town Pink Campaign on Oct. 3

Volunteers are being sought to create a “Mile of Pink” on Saturday, Oct. 3 in the downtown areas of Darien, New Canaan and Stamford.  The one-of-a-kind rally will have local breast cancer survivors and supporters stand side by side wearing special “Paint the Town Pink” T-shirts.

The 90-minute event kicks off Stamford Hospital’s month-long “Paint the Town Pink” campaign in recognition of October’s National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Since 2005, Stamford Hospital has been joined by community sponsors in Darien, New Canaan and Stamford to promote breast cancer awareness and the importance of early detection as well as comprehensive breast care services available in these communities.

“The turnout from last year’s first ever Mile of Pink was more than we expected,” said Liz Manfredo, Stamford Hospital’s cancer service line administrator.  “This year, we are still encouraging all breast cancer survivors, their family, friends and neighbors to take part.  The show of unity will make a powerful statement about surviving breast cancer and the support that exists within our communities.”

From 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m., Mile of Pink participants will line the three towns’ most highly trafficked areas.  In Darien, participants will stand in front of the Darien Playhouse along the Post Road from Leroy Ave. to Tokeneke Rd.  In New Canaan, they will line up in front of Town Hall on the corner of Elm St. and Main St.  In Stamford, they will show their support from Veteran’s Park at Atlantic St. to Bedford St.

To RSVP for the event, call (203) 276-6143 or email pttp@stamhealth.org Participants can purchase their “Paint the Town Pink” T-shirt for $10 at one of the following locations:

·         Darien:  Gardener’s Center & Florist, House of Needlepoint, or Kelly Associates Real Estate

·         New Canaan:  Design Solutions, Hairquarters West, or MacKenzies

·         Stamford:  Agabhumi, Stamford Hospital’s Bennett Cancer Center, or New Wave Seafood

In addition to the kick-off, there are a variety of educational and social events planned from late September through October in Darien, New Canaan and Stamford.  For a complete calendar of events, visit www.paintthetownpink.org.

“Paint the Town Pink” is a community-wide effort that runs throughout the month of October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Its goal is to raise awareness for breast cancer-related issues such as the importance of screenings and early detection, as well as the treatment and services available
in this area.  The campaign is sponsored by Stamford Hospital in conjunction with organizations throughout the communities of, Darien, New Canaan
and Stamford.
