The
Visiting Nurse Service of New York 2009 Benefit,
“Investing in Children, Strengthening
Families,”
will be held on November 12, 2009 at The
Waldorf = Astoria. The evening’s honoree is
John W. Rowe, MD, Professor at
Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public
Health, who will receive the Lillian D. Wald
Award. The
award, named after the public health pioneer and
founder of VNSNY, is presented in recognition of
individuals who have made significant
contributions to the health and welfare of
others. The evening will also include
Special Recognition of Carol Raphael, in
celebration of her 20th Anniversary
as Chief Executive Officer of VNSNY. In
addition, the Guest Speaker will be
Christy Turlington Burns, an advocate for
maternal health for the international relief
organization CARE.
Dinner
Co-Chairs for the benefit include James L.
Bailey, Douglas D. Broadwater, Anne and Joel
Ehrenkranz, Gwen and Peter Norton, Valerie and
Jeffrey Peltier, Carl H. Pforzheimer III and
Norman H. Volk. Funds
raised from this event will support VNSNY
Children and Family Services, which
provide specialized health and support services
to almost 10,000 children and their families,
making it one of the largest programs of its
kind in New York.
The black tie evening begins with a
cocktail reception at 6:30 PM, followed by
dinner and dancing at 7:30 PM.

largest non-profit home health care organization
in the nation,
stands
in the front lines of public health care.
In 2008, we
provided nearly $29 million in charitable care
and community services, including direct care
for nearly 10,000 uninsured and underinsured New
Yorkers with nowhere else to turn.
