The
Savannah College of Art and Design, named the
“Hottest for Studying Art” among America’s 25
Hottest Colleges by Kaplan/Newsweek, held its
prestigious SCAD STYLE
Étoile
Awards for the first time in New York
City at the French Embassy. Étoile, which means
“a star in the sky” in French, connotes
brilliance, glamour, iconic style and ideation.
The SCAD STYLE ÉTOILE AWARDS honor innovative,
trend-setting leaders in the fields of style and
design.
The 2008 Étoile
recipients being honored this year were interior
designer and potter Jonathan Adler, ELLE DECOR
editor-in-chief Margaret Russell and fashion
designer Pierre Cardin, who was also being
recognized for his historic restoration and
cultural contributions to Lacoste, France. The
SCAD STYLE ÉTOILE AWARDS promote the college’s
study abroad program at SCAD-Lacoste. Over 200
luminaries from the worlds of style and design
were feted at the cocktail reception and award
ceremony. For one starry night, the French
Embassy was transformed with an Étoile
installation designed by Glenn Wallace and SCAD
students shipped from Savannah along with
student-made documentaries on the Étoile
recipients which were screened that evening.
In
attendance were: Savannah College of Art and
Design President Paula S. Wallace,
fashion designer Pierre Cardin, ELLE
DECOR editor-in-chief Margaret Russell,
home furnishings designer Jonathan Adler, Lee
Radziwill, Dakota Jackson, Anne Slater, David
Kuhn, New York City Police
Commissioner Raymond Kelly, Vogue’s
