LUMBERTON, MS–In one of the first
30,000 foot parachute jumps for a
civilian–and his first sky dive
ever–Baiting Hollow entrepreneur
Mike Filsaime fell more than
two-and-a-half minutes for charity
raising more than $30,000–a dollar
for every foot he plummeted toward
the earth.
After
he landed safely, Filsaime pulled
off his oxygen mask–at 30,000 feet
there is not enough oxygen to
breathe and the temperature is 30
degrees below zero–and presented a
check to the Richard Branson School
of Entrepreneurship in South Africa.
"We
fell through space for more than two
minutes before pulling the rip
cord," the Baiting Hollow
businessman said. "It was a long
time to think about the crazy
position I was in and was incredibly
exhilarating." Becoming only one of
a few civilians to ever leap from
that height, Filsaime was tethered
to an instructor for his charitable
dive.
One
of the top Internet marketers and
E-Commerce experts in the world,
Filsaime said he took the plunge for
the Branson school to support its
efforts to help the young people of
Africa rise out of poverty. "I'm a
businessman and I applaud Branson's
goal of teaching people how to
become a success in life, rather
than just giving them a free
handout."
Filsaime was joined in his plunge by
fellow entrepreneur, Yanik Silver,
the president of Maverick Business
Adventures. The two have also driven
dune buggies along the Baja 100 race
course, flown real fighter jets in a
dogfight, taken a helicopter into
the Grand Canyon, and floated
weightless, like astronauts, during
a zero-gravity flight above the
Nevada desert. There next adventure
will be to challenge extreme white
water rapids in Colorado.
