On
Saturday
7/16/11
at the
Southampton
manicured
estate
of Ellen
and
Chuck
Scarborough
(the NBC
award-winning
anchor),
The
Southampton
Animal
Shelter
Foundation
held
their
annual
benefit.
The
event
honored
Karen
LeFrak
and her
champion
standard
poodle,
Gem.
Karen is
a
breeder
of
champion
dogs as
well as
a
concert
pianist
and
composer.
She has
written
children's
books:
"Best in
Show",
"Jake,
the
Philharmonic
Dog" and
"Jake,
the
Ballet
Dog".
Some of
Karen's
dogs are
used for
animal
therapy
and are
used to
help
accident
and
stroke
victims.
The
evening
was
glorious
and the
150
guests
were
dressed
in
Hampton
summer
casual.
Some of
the
guests
included
Patricia
Watt,
producer
of the
annual
Astaire
Awards,
as well
as Sara
Johnson,
producer,
Terri
Gold,
artist,
Carolyn
Kendall
Buchter,
Kevin
Conway,
Sherri
Kaufman,
Carl and
Diane
Kapland,
Mr. &
Mrs.
Steven
Haynes,
Jonathan
McCann
(President,
Southampton
Animal
Shelter),
Izo
Cleanse,
and Sony
Schotland
(Executive
V.P.,
Southampton
Animal
Shelter)
and
Linda B.
Shapiro.
Also
attending
were
Mark
Lembo,
Executive
Director
of the
Evelyn
Alexander
Wildlife
Rescue
Center,
and he
has new
and
exciting
ideas
for the
Center,
as well
as
Kristofer
Ambrose,
composer
and
singer,
who has
just
written
his new
song
"WILDLIFE",
which is
on
iTunes.
Kristofer
was
inspired
by the
true
story of
a faun
and its
mother
who
visited
daily
the
Westhampton
Estate
of
Jeanna
Carr and
her five
cats for
apples
and
pears.
The
mother
was
killed
during
the
hunting
season
and the
faun
"Bambina"
came
alone
each day
for
months
and grew
into a
young
deer.
Recently
she came
but had
been
shot
with an
arrow in
her hind
leg.
Jeanna
called
the
Evelyn
Alexander
Wildlife
Rescue
Center
and they
came
immediately.
The deer
was
taken to
the
veterinarian
and its
hind leg
had to
be
amputated.
She was
brought
back to
the
Center
and
Jeanna,
with
Kristofer
Ambrose,
visited
her in
her
hammock.
The next
day
"Bambina"
died,
but
peacefully
and
having
been
loved.
Kristofer
was
inspired
to
create
this
profond
song
"WILDLIFE".
At this
summer
benefit
there
were
three
kittens
up for
adoption.
They
were
gracefully
playing
together
and it
made me
think of
the
Renaissance
icon
master's
observations,
"Every
cat is a
feline
masterpiece"
...
Leonardo DaVinci.
To all
sentient
beings
who love
all
cats,
dogs and
wildlife
-
Accelerando
