I attended the ASAP convention at The New York Hilton Hotel
to listen to a short program by the American Spiritual
Ensemble, celebrating the 25th Anniversary Tour. It is
conducted by my good friend Everett McCorvey, (photo
below) who is a professor of music at the University of
Kentucky in Louisville. Its mission is to keep the American
Negro Spiritual alive. They are usually a 20-25 ensemble of
magnificent singers, accompanied by piano and a drum. All
the spiritual songs are well known and sometimes performed
in a jazzy style. It is one of the most rewarding and
inspiring programs that a person can listen to and enjoy.
Congratulations to Everett!
The party for The
First Irish Festival, January 9-28, by the Origin
Theatre Company, Artistic Director George
C. Heslin, took place at the Irish Consulate.

Among the charming guests, playwrights, actors and board
members, I chatted with board member Janice
Gormley, and playwright Turlough
McConnell, whose play Bishop
Maginn will be performed at the Irish Consulate, 345
Park Avenue, on January 16 at 1pm. It was a splendid event
with fine wines and food.
I was invited to see the new mini-movie The Big Break at
Metrograph, 7 Ludlow Street, where we were served
Casamigo Tequila to put us in the mood for the short
film. Many of the producers attended, including the
Producer/Fight Director Loren Herbert, (photo
below). Also present were some of the actors and
creative team from the film. There was a Q & A after the
screening. We then went to Chloe 81, 81 Ludlow Street
for a party with more drinks, food and dancing. I
enjoyed a Paloma cocktail and my guest sampled a Spicy
Margarita, both with Casamigo Tequila. It completed a
delightful evening
