Off-Broadway, This
Day Forward, by Nicky
Silver, at the Vineyard Theatre. has two acts.
The first act takes place in a hotel room on a
wedding night in 1958. The three scenes are totally
unbelievable, and the characters are unsympathetic.
The second act takes place in the son's apartment in
2004. The mother, sister and son are unpleasant
characters. It is not a rewarding theatrical
experience.
Sweet Charity,
book by Neil
Simon,
music by Cy
Coleman,
lyrics by Dorothy
Fields, is a splendid production of the New
Group. The revival features Sutton
Foster (photo below) in the title role. She is
superb, and the entire cast supports her
wonderfully, directed expertly by Leigh Silverman, with
choreography by Joshua
Bergasse. I enjoyed every minute of it, and
recommend it highly. The opening night party took
place at the Lindeman Restaurant, 508 West 42nd St,
with guests Ben
Vereen, Peter Hermann, Kate Baldwin, Jayne
Houdyshell and
Sutton Foster's husband Ted
Griffin. Cy
Coleman's widow Shelby was
also present and she gave me a hug!
The 2016 International Emmy Awards at
the New York Hilton is always a star studded event.
This year was no different. Nominees arrive from all
over the world for the reception, dinner and the
awards. German and British programs each won three
Emmys.

Alan Cumming was
the host on this occasion, and Bernadette
Peters was
one of the many celebrity presenters (photo below).
It was a marvelous evening.
The New York City Ballet presents its
annual gift to all New Yorkers and to tourists
visiting the city during the month of December The Nutcracker,
music by Tschaikovsky,
choreography by Balanchine,
is a magnificent production which pleases adults and
children alike. The scenery, by Rouben
Ter-Arutunian and
the costumes, by Karinska,
are beautiful and a delight to the eye. The cast was
outstanding, and the soloists were simply brilliant.
The final pas de deux by Sterling
Hyltin as
The Sugarplum Fairy and Andrew
Veyette as
Her Cavalier won a tremendous, well deserved
ovation. Ashley
Bouder as
Dewdrop and Daniel
Ulbricht leading the Candy Canes were a joy to
watch. The orchestra, under the baton of Andrews
Sill, played the glorious music excellently. It
was another memorable evening at the ballet.
I Hope Everyone Enjoyed A Happy
Thanksgiving!
