12th Annual Horizons Fishing Tournament Raises $43,000
for Hospice of Palm Beach County Foundation
118 Boats Registered in Support of Children’s Bereavement

West Palm Beach, FL,
August 3, 2011 – The weekend began with a “Captains Meeting”
at the Riviera Beach Marina where five gallon buckets filled
with gifts were given to the 118 boat captain’s who signed
in to participate in the 12th Annual Horizons Fishing
Tournament hosted by Hospice of Palm Beach County
Foundation. Anglers then joined friends and families to
enjoy a casual dinner, provided by Park Avenue BBQ Grille,
along with entertainment and scores of raffle prizes.
The tournament held Saturday, June 23, raised $43,000 to
support the children’s bereavement services provided by
Hospice of
Palm Beach County.
This year, anglers
had a choice of two marinas for weigh-in: Riviera Beach
Marina and the Castaways Marina & Square Grouper Tiki Bar in
Jupiter. Cod & Capers provided an opportunity for anglers to
donate their fish to them, who in turn donated all receipts
from their sale back to Hospice of Palm Beach County
Foundation. The boat donating the most fish with 121.7
pounds was Taylors Ocean II owned by Mike Folsom.
The $5,000 Grand Prize winner of this year’s tournament was
James Gilchrist, aboard the Yippi Ki Ay, landing a 44.4
pound kingfish. The grand prize winner competes against the
kingfish, wahoo and dolphin categories.
Other winners included: Alex Burgess, who won Largest
Kingfish aboard Penny-Less with a 42.1 pound catch; Hub
Spooner, aboard Another Round, who won Largest Wahoo with a
42.2 pound fish and Norm Van Decarr, for Largest Dolphin
aboard Baby Grand for a 26.1 pound catch. Other categories
were Largest Snapper/Grouper won by Randall Dixon on Cowboy
Up with a nine-pound snapper; Junior Angler was Chase Large
on Spice Rum, with an 18-pound kingfish and the Women’s
category was won by Taylor Folsom on Taylor’s Ocean II with
a 23.6 pound kingfish.
An awards ceremony, complete with a CR Chicks dinner,
auction and music followed the tournament at the Riviera
Beach Marina.
Chairmen of the
Horizons Fishing Tournament were Mark Wodlinger and Mike
Riseley. The honorary chair was internationally-known,
marine artist, angler and marine conservationist, Carey
Chen.
