More than
425 guests followed the yellow brick road
on Feb. 8 to the
2014 Cleveland Clinic Florida Ball, themed
Somewhere
Over the Rainbow.
Thanks to the leadership of chairpersons PatrickPark and Geri and Frank
Morrow,
this year’s magical event raised an impressive
$1.1 million to enhance and advance the premier medical
programs and services offered at Cleveland Clinic Florida’s
offices in West Palm Beach, Weston, Palm Beach Gardens and
Parkland. Their efforts were aided by vice-chairmen Diana
Ecclestone, Jane and Bill
Told and Robert and Suzanne
Tomsich and international
chairman, Donald
Trump. The grand honorary chairwoman was Sydell
L. Miller, who was recognized for her exceptional
advocacy and support of the Cleveland Clinic.
The Wizard of Oz-inspired theme was successfully carried
through in all aspects of the event by designer Bruce Sutka,
starting from the magnificent Mar-a-Lago Club lit up in
emerald green to a colorful hot air balloon decorating the
lawn. Guests entered the ballroom through a maze depicting
scenes from the movie. The journey began with whirling
tornados and ended at Oz with the exit flanked by the entire
cast of characters – Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Cowardly
Lion and the Tinman, oh
my! Dinner and dancing was set to music by the
unmatched talent of Soul Survivors.
A special highlight of the evening was the presentation of
the Sydell L. Miller Award. Dr.
Toby Cosgrove, CEO of Cleveland Clinic, presented the
award to Kathryn Vecellio for
her loyal dedication to supporting the organization’s
mission of bringing world-class care
to its patients.
In addition
to the evening’s festivities, two luxury items were
auctioned to raise additional funds for Cleveland Clinic
Florida. A handsome men’s watch by Ulysse Nardin, valued at
$22,000 and a gorgeous ring and earring set by jewelry
designer, Jean Schlumberger from Tiffany & Co. in Palm
Beach, valued at $23,900.
