The Kravis Center for the Performing Arts honored its
Dress Circle members at an exquisite dinner dance on
December 5, 2011.
Nearly 300 Dress Circle members and guests attended the
event that began with a cocktail reception in the Harris
Pre-Function Hall, followed by a scrumptious
three-course dinner in the Weiner Banquet Center’s
Gimelstob Ballroom. Fitting with the evening’s theme of
“A New York State of Mind,” the room’s décor included
zebra-style table settings and a behind-the-band
backdrop of a sparkling Manhattan skyline.
Following a video packed with special 20th anniversary
congratulations from a variety of stars and celebrities,
William Meyer, the Kravis Center’s Chairman of the
Board, welcomed guests as they dined on herb-roasted
Chicken Manhattan with a cherry compote over a bed of
spinach. The dessert? New York cheesecake, of course.
The Dress Circle Dinner is an annual event in
recognition of donors who contribute $1,000 or more to
the Annual Campaign. “Our fundraising goal is higher
this year, but we are confident our programming and your
continued generosity will help us to have another
successful year,” Mr. Meyer told the culture-loving
crowd, which included many Kravis Center Board members
and Life Trustees such as Alexander W. Dreyfoos, Alec
Flamm, Herbert Gimelstob, Barbara Golden, John E.
Jenkins, David I. Kosowsky, Lee Wolf and Judith B.
Goodman.
“Think about this – we bring over 42,000 students from
Palm Beach County schools to the Kravis Center each
year. In most cases, we have to pay the busing as well.
This is part of our annual expense budget. Is it worth
it? You bet it is,” he declared. “For most of these
kids, it is the first time they have ever seen a live
performance with professional actors and scenery. You
should see how their faces light up when being exposed
to live performing acts for the very first time. Who
knows how many future actors, dancers, singers or
lighting technicians had their first spark in Dreyfoos
Hall?”
After
the delicious dinner, attendees danced the night
away to the sophisticated, Frank Sinatra-style
sounds of Mark Fernicola & Band. Martin Axman and
Phylis Fogelson generously sponsored the annual
Dress Circle Members annual dinner.
