Hosts
Fourth Annual Palm Beach Wine Auction
The
Kravis Center for the Performing
Arts hosted
the fourth annual Palm
Beach Wine Auction on
February 23 at The Breakers, Palm
Beach.
More
than 160 friends and supporters
attended this popular, sold-out
event that has, since it was
started, generated more than $1
million to support the Kravis
Center’s award-winning education
programs.
“This
year’s Wine Auction was not only
spectacular as usual, but it was an
evening that none of our attendees will
ever forget,” said Palm Beach Wine
Auction Chair Ted
Mandes,
who is also a member of the Kravis
Center’s Board of Directors.
The
evening began with a glittery cocktail
reception in the Tapestry Bar where
guests enjoyed the finest champagne and
caviar; followed by an elegant
five-course dinner served in the
magnificent, candle lit Circle Room,
which was decorated to resemble a
European wine cellar. The delicious
repast included delicacies such as Duck
Rillette, Foie Gras French Toast and
Wagyu Ribeye, ending on a sweet note
with Blackberry White Chocolate Panna
Cotta. As attendees have come to
expect, each course was perfectly paired
with specially selected wines from
around the world.
“Once
again, everyone raved about the
incomparable food and wine,” said Judy
Mitchell,
Kravis Center CEO. “The atmosphere and
décor were exquisite, and the wine
auction was highly charged with many
excited bidders. This is precisely what
true wine connoisseurs expect a
world-class auction to be. Ted and his
committee did an outstanding job.”
The
auction of 56 impressive lots was once
again under the direction of Michael
Troise,
the retired Auction Director for NY
Wines/Christie’s Fine and Rare Wine
Department and an expert with more than
40 years experience in tasting, buying
and brokering wines from vintages dating
as far back as the late eighteenth
century.
According
to Mandes, the mission of the annual
Palm Beach Wine Auction is to “share the
cultural wealth” by further advancing
and broadening the scope of the
educational experience of our youth
through targeted programs at the Kravis
Center. “This is not just a another
cause for me, it is an ongoing
obligation,” he emphasized.
The
Premier Grand Cru sponsor for the annual
Palm Beach Wine Auction was PNC
