Ruth & Norman Rales Jewish Family
Services (JFS) honored its volunteer corps of over
350 individuals at its Annual Volunteer Appreciation
Luncheon held January 20th at
Congregation Bnai Israel in Boca Raton. Nearly 200
volunteers attended the event which featured special
recognition of those volunteers who have been
working at JFS for over 15 years. Judith Goodman
from Delray Beach was named JFS Volunteer of the
Year for her tireless efforts at the Weisman Delray
Community Center, where she has been handling a
variety of tasks for the past 3 years. When asked
why she volunteers for JFS, Goodman replied “I need
them (JFS) as much as they need me.”
JFS volunteers assist with numerous
programs including: Career & Employment Services,
Weisman Delray Community Center, special events,
Feldman Family Adventure & Diamond Clubs, Friendly
Visitors program, Jacobson Family Food Pantry,
Kibbitz & Ride program, Mentoring program, Meals on
Wheels, Parachaplains, Story Circle, clerical
support, Telephone Reassurance and Welcome Home
program. “Volunteers are the backbone at JFS,”
Stated Nadine Greenberg, Director of Volunteers
Services. “We would not be able to impact the lives
of nearly 15,000 clients without our volunteers.”
During her address to the attendees,
Danielle Hartman, JFS President and CEO praised the
work of the volunteers. “When you volunteer at JFS,
no matter how big or small the task, you are doing
great things. You are helping to make someone’s day
a little brighter, more hopeful, more meaningful and
that small act has a significant return on
investment to the people receiving your goodwill.”
