WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., --
Aug. 21, 2012 – Broadway came to Palm
Beach County recently when Young Singers
of the Palm Beaches produced a
three-week intensive study for students
who hope to one day make it in the Big
Apple. Students performed at the Kravis
Center on the last day of the course,
providing parents and the community with
a reception and show that spotlighted
their talents as well as their dreams.
Presented by the Broadway Artists Studio
series and offered for the first time in
South Florida by Young Singers of the
Palm Beaches, the musical performance
opened with Opening Audition from “42nd
Street” and followed with selections
from other famous musicals such as
“Annie,” “South Pacific” and “West Side
Story.” Each piece included professional
choreography which showed off the skills
the students had honed and finessed
during the workshop. You Can’t Stop the
Beat from “Hairspray” brought down the
house in the spectacular finale.
“The outstanding
performance these students provided
showcases the value of music education
for our youth,” noted Beth Clark,
executive director of Young Singers of
The Palm Beaches. “The students’ hard
work was evident in their incredible
performances. We are proud of all that
they have learned in a short amount of
time and know that through this
opportunity they have acquired skills
that they will use throughout their
lives. We’ve received glowing
endorsements from students, parents and
the community over this program, and we
are convinced it will make a repeat
performance in Palm Beach County next
summer.”
The workshop, presented by award-winning
artistic directors and faculty who
collectively have performed in or
orchestrated approximately 75 Broadway
shows, was created for all levels of
voice, acting and dance. Classes were
also taught by featured Broadway guest
artists, choreographers and a director
culminating with the Showcase
Performance. On the last days of the
workshop, New York City talent director
Nora Brennan provided professional
advice on landing a role on Broadway.
“Congratulations to all involved with
Broadway Artists Studio,” noted Don
Butler, Young Singers’ proud parent and
Associate Professor of Theatre at Palm
Beach Atlantic University. “Great
showcase today, guys. Thanks to Jason
Gillman, Jackie Bayne Gillman, Greg
Graham, Nadine Isenegger and Steve
Freeman for putting it all together. And
to Jerry Mitchell, Laura Bell Bundy and
Nora Brennan for inspiring the kids,
especially my son. And special thanks to
Young Singers of the Palm Beaches for
producing and Kravis for hosting. You
all did yourselves and Palm Beach County
proud. A great success!”
