Originally the Bourne Mansion, the country residence of
Frederick Gilbert Bourne, president of the Singer Sewing
  Company .

 In 1926, the property was sold and became La Salle Military Academy. Now belongs to a University.  

  It was reputed to have been the largest estate on Long Island when it was built in 1897. The georgian-Style home was designed by noted Architect, Ernest Flagg.  

 Located on Long Island's Great South Bay, midway between New York City and the Hamptons,  and a short distance from the regional airport and suburban parkways,

The estate also has a 200,000 square foot boat basin (18,600 square meter), which itself is sheltered  by a 700 foot long 25 foot wide canal (213 by 7.6 meter) 

 which leads to and opens onto the Bay . The canal should permit a vessel width or beam of 20'. The ocean side is has the characteristic of beach-front property.  

The great lawn though good is though for a relatively large helicopter landing site

  Approximate Lot Area: +/-170 Acres; Approximate Tidal Wetlands +/- 19 Acres; Approximate Fresh Water Wetlands +/- Acres. Upland Area +/- 142 Acres.

(The Great South Bay with its barrier islands also serves to protect the estate's 1,200 foot frontage  (365 meters) from erosion by the Atlantic Ocean). And, in addition to a number of out buildings,

woodlands, meadows, ponds and streams (both tidal and fresh water), the property has wildlife,   tennis courts, trails, and, in the former carriage house, an Olympic swimming pool and other
 athletic facilities.

Zoning: Residence AAA, 1-acre density, with number of units ranging from 100 to 200 plus, depending upon type of development, such as single family or multi-unit senior housing.
