At a time of rapid institutional growth, Worldfund,
a New York-based nonprofit dedicated to fighting
poverty in Latin America through education, is
thrilled to announce that it has filled two key
positions that will drive program expansion and
further our mission to bring quality education to
millions of impoverished children in Latin America.
Janet Kyle,
a former high school teacher and human resource
executive, joins Worldfund as Director of Programs.
As Worldfund strives to reach its next level of
growth, Janet will oversee the organization?s
portfolio of programs and spearhead their growth
throughout the region. Janet spent 20 years in
human resources with JPMorgan and Citibank before
becoming a social studies and special education
teacher in a struggling New York City public
school. Janet grew up in Latin America and has
advanced degrees in Latin American Studies from
Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced
International Studies, and in Teaching from Pace
University.
Long-time São
Paulo resident and former banker Kelly Maurice
joins the organization as Director of Worldfund
Brazil. In this fundamental role Kelly will promote
and scale Worldfund?s STEM Brasil program to improve
the quality of science and math education in
Brazilian public high schools. Her background
includes over 25 years in international banking with
BankBoston, JP Morgan and Royal Bank of Canada,
where she focused on Brazil and Latin America.
?Janet and Kelly
bring impressive private-sector experience and
regional knowledge that will further enable our
continued and sustained growth,? said Worldfund
Founder and President Luanne Zurlo. ?They
have enormous ability to develop and manage
relationships with schools, government officials,
and private organizations and will be instrumental
to the success of Worldfund?s new programs,? Zurlo
concluded.
Janet succeeds
outgoing Director of Programs Michelle Viegas, and
Kelly succeeds former Worldfund Brazil Director Luiz
Sergio Cardoso de Oliveira.
Worldfund is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) whose mission is
to raise the quality and relevance of education in
Latin America in order to transform lives and break
the cycle of poverty. Worldfund fulfills its
mission through its investment in schools,
after-school programs for gifted youth, and teacher
and principal training designed in collaboration
with organizations such as Dartmouth College and
Harvard University.
Founded in 2002, Worldfund has swiftly become the
premiere U.S. non-profit
devoted exclusively to improving basic pre-K through
high school education in Latin America.
Currently Worldfund reaches 86,000 students annually
in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador,
Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru and Venezuela;
and expects to reach 250,000 students annually by
2015. Worldfund is particularly focused on targeting
high potential underprivileged children, and
instilling critical thinking and key skills that
will enable them to study at university and pursue
meaningful work. Contributors are corporations and
individuals strongly committed to Latin America's
social and economic development. In 2009 Worldfund
became a fully-registered charity in both Mexico and
Brazil. For more information about Worldfund, visit
