Commemorating Anne Frank's 95th Birthday:
Exclusive Online Screenings of "The Anne Frank Gift
Shop" and "Anne" Unveil New Perspectives
Available for a limited time, the award winning
films highlight her enduring relevance and legacy.
LOS ANGELES, CA - To
honor Anne Frank’s legacy and mark what would have
been her 95th birthday, the award winning short
films The
Anne Frank Gift Shop and Anne will
be screening
together online for one
week only June 12-19. In
a moment when the resonance of Anne Frank’s story
and the Holocaust have taken on extra importance,
both films tackle critical themes through a new
lens.
The films will be available via the YouTube
channel of Reboot
Studios, which empowers artists,
storytellers and innovators to transform society
with inspirational and provocative new Jewish
content. The films are available for community and
educational screenings after the limited showing.
Is there a
wrong way to talk about the Holocaust? That’s the
question at the heart of The
Anne Frank Gift Shop,
a dark comedy about antisemitism from author
and journalist Mickey Rapkin (Pitch
Perfect, Theater Geek), that
packs a vital and timely message. When a high-end
design firm presents its plans to reimagine the gift
shop at The Anne Frank House, the company’s overt
appeal to Generation Z sparks a debate about
collective trauma, the Holocaust—and tote bags. The
film was shortlisted for the best live action short
category for the 96th Academy Awards.
“Who owns Anne
Frank?” asked Cynthia Ozick in 1997; today it’s an
even harder question. The short film Anne,
from filmmaker Adi Eshman and director Desirée
Abeyta, confronts this question head-on. In Anne,
two actresses have made it to the final callbacks
for the role of a lifetime: to play Anne Frank in an
upcoming staged production. But as the topic of
color-blind casting makes its way into the audition
room, a controversial conversation emerges. Anne aims
to explore the nuances within cultural
representation, in addition to the importance of why
stories like Anne Frank’s continue to be told. It
recently was awarded a 2024 Silver Telly Award in
the Non-broadcast Narrative category for “pushing
boundaries beyond the frame,” “featuring diverse
points of view,” and “unlocking deeper layers of
creativity, innovation, and meaning in this bold new
era of video and television.”
“Anne Frank's story is more than a historical
account; it's a timeless beacon of hope and
resilience. These films delve into her legacy,
exploring themes that are as relevant today as they
were decades ago. By presenting her story in new
ways, we ensure that its lessons continue to inspire
and educate future generations,” said Noam Dromi,
managing director of Reboot Studios and producer of The
Anne Frank Gift Shop.
