Charles Askegard,
principal dancer with New York City Ballet, and
Desmond Richardson,
principal dancer of Complexions, have joined the
cast of 'LEGACY,' a celebration of
30 years in the U.S. for Valentina Kozlova and
Leonid Kozlov, former Bolshoi Ballet principals who
defected in Los Angeles while on a U.S. tour with
the Company. One performance - Monday, November
23 at 7:30 PM, at The Joyce Theater.
Askegard and Richardson join other guest artists:
Wendy Whelan and
Philip Neal,
principals with New York City Ballet, will dance the
"Who Cares?" pas de deux from Balanchine's "Who
Cares?"
Irina Dvorovenko
and Maxim Beloserkovsky
, principals with American Ballet Theatre, will
appear in the "Splendid Isolation 3" duet
choreographed by Jessica Lang, music by Mahler
Whitney Jensen and
Albert Davydov
will dance the "Harlequinade Pas de Deux" taught and
coached by Valentina Kozlova
Desmond Richardson
will dance Dwight Rhoden's solo "Moonlight"
Charles Askegard
will dance with Valentina Kozlova in a new duet
created especially for the occasion by Margo
Sappington: Once Upon a Time, music by
Rimsky-Korsakov
Valentina Kozlova
and Whitney Jensen
in "The Mentor," created for the evening by Margo
Sappington. Jensen, now a member of the Boston
Ballet, has been coached and mentored by Kozlova for
several years.
Leonid Kozlov,
originally scheduled to perform with Kozlova, will
be unable to appear, but will be present in
newsreels of the couple's defection and their
exciting 1991 return to Moscow, after Glasnost, to
perform.
All performers have been important colleagues of
Kozlova in the past.
Charles Askegard has had a long relationship with
Valentina Kozlova, having been a principal
dancer with The Daring Project, the ballet company
co-directed by Kozlova and Sappington.
