(West Palm Beach, FL
– The Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts will
be bestowing the first annual Alan Lebow Award for
Excellence in Recitation at a special reception in the
Persson Rehearsal Hall on Friday,
March 20.
The award – a $500 cash prize
that will go to each of three full-time high school or
college students who demonstrate financial need – is named
for Alan Lebow, who passed away last February 23, just a
month before his 82nd birthday.
Predicated on Mr. Lebow’s lifelong love of Shakespeare and
poetry, the goal of the award is to inspire students to
pursue literature as a career or avocation. In fact, the
three winners of the new Alan Lebow Award will be selected
based on their presentation of a memorized Shakespearean
selection of three minutes or less. The top 20 candidates
will be invited to attend the March 20 reception.
In addition to the cash prize, the three winners also will
receive tickets to the March 20 performance of the Acting
Company and The Guthrie Theater’s performance of Romeo
and Juliet in the Kravis Center’s Marshall E. Rinker,
Sr. Playhouse.
The Alan Lebow Award for Excellence in Recitation was
endowed by Kids’ Dreams, the public charity founded by Alan
and Patricia Lebow. Mrs. Lebow is the founder and managing
partner of the West Palm Beach office of the law firm Broad
and Cassel.
“Thanks to the support of our friends, Kids’ Dreams is a
public charity that not only helps underserved children in
our community but also lends support to our zoo, museum and
the Kravis Center by giving children the opportunity to
experience these cultural centers in conjunction with
mentoring by local law enforcement representatives,” said
Patricia Lebow.
“My husband loved poetry, art, literature and music,” she
added. “I know he is so proud of what we are doing in his
memory.”
Applications for the Alan Lebow Award for Excellence in
Recitation, presented by Kids’ Dreams, are due by February 1
at 5 p.m.

About Kids’ Dreams:
For the past two summers,
Kids’ Dreams sent children from the Youth Empowerment Center

camp at Palm Beach Zoo. In addition to animal encounters and
a visit to the South Florida Science Museum, the campers
spent time getting to know a sheriff's deputy. Older youth
were given a Narcotic Overdose Prevention and Education
(NOPE) Task Force presentation. Kids’ Dreams also hosted 140
youngsters during the Max Planck Science Tunnel exhibit at
the museum and has awarded a partial college scholarship;
