PURPOSE OF ORGANIZATION: Founded
in 1910, Brooklyn Botanic Garden is a 52-acre urban
oasis displaying 12,000 different kinds of plants
from around the world in a dozen distinct
landscapes. The Garden’s combination of spectacular
natural beauty, inspired design and tranquil
atmosphere attracts more than 725,000 visitors
annually. Through its scientific research,
plant-conservation projects, and award-winning
publications, the Garden is an essential source of
public awareness and understanding of the essential
role plants play in our lives. A focus on the urban
environment has made the Garden an important
resource for those involved in preserving rare and
endangered plants, planning parks and greenways,
repairing degraded habitats, and designing gardens
that are both beautiful and ecologically sound.
