Enjoy a late summer night under the stars
with the famed Andrea Marcovicci, when
Copland House at Merestead debuts its
cabaret evenings on Saturday, August 21st at
7:30pm. Americas torch singer, spellbinder,
heart-breaker (People magazine)
makes her only
Westchester appearance of the
summer, offering SKYLARK:
Marcovicci Sings Johnny Mercer, a
celebration of the four-time Oscar-winning
lyricist.
The performance takes place in Meresteads
exquisite formal garden, where audiences
will enjoy the renowned vocalist up close
under a tent, in an intimate evening that
includes light bistro fare and wine,
followed by a reception with Ms. Marcovicci.
The
al fresco
setting is the perfect counterpart for
Mercer, who has been called an outdoor
writer whose lyrics speak of bucolic things
like trains, whistles, birds, and other
natural sounds and images.
Hailed as the greatest cabaret star of her
generation (International Herald Tribune)
and the epitome of elegance and showbiz
savvy (Variety), Marcovicci's
program features hits and rarities of
Harold Arlen, Jerome Kern, Hoagy Carmichael,
Henry Mancini, and other favorites from the
American Songbook in her trademark
interpretations of Mercers pensive, often
impish, lyrics. Skylark includes
familiar favorites like the title song as
well as Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive,
That Old Black Magic, One for My Baby (and
One More for the Road), You Were Never
Lovelier, Autumn Leaves, Goody, Goody
and, of course, Moon River, as well as many rarely-heard
anecdotes. Marcoviccis show has been seen
across the country and at the Oak Room of
Manhattans Algonquin Hotel, where critics
called it 'scintillating' and 'a must see,'
Copland House is the award-winning creative
center for American music based at the
iconic composer's National Historic Landmark
home in Cortlandt Manor. It recently
expanded onto Mount Kiscos majestic, 130-acre Merestead
estate, to establish a unique artistic hub
that nurtures Americas rich
musical heritage through a broad range
of musical, educational, and public
programs.
The evening is underwritten, in part, by
Adela and Lawrence Elow, and is a benefit
performance for Meresteads renovation and
programs. Seating is limited, and advance
purchase is required. Tickets are $100 for
VIP table seating and VIP parking, and $50
for general seating and parking. A limited
number of sponsorships are available for
$2,500, that include pre-performance dinner
for 8, plus VIP tickets and VIP parking.
