Global Han
Couture Design Competition
This third annual event features over 200
designs by over 60 designers from around the world. Drawing
on the apparel design principles from China’s dynastic
periods, competition entries incorporate fabrics, colors,
patterns, accessories and construction techniques to evoke
the spirit of Chinese culture from a bygone era.
Since ancient times, clothing has been
associated with courteousness, and China has been known as
"a country of politeness" for its apparel. Han Couture
refers to the clothing worn by the ethnic Han Chinese from
the time of the ancient Yellow Emperor to the end of the
Ming Dynasty in the mid-17th century. The defining
characteristics of Han Couture are its unique collars and
lapels; wide, flowing sleeves; and the use of a sash in
place of buttons. The look is refined, reserved, and noble.
Come and be dazzled by the beauty and witness the
renaissance of Han (Chinese) couture!"
