A presentation of Susan Gold's memoir
The Eyes Are the Same about childhood in Poland and
Ukraine during the WWII as seen through a child's
eyes invites a multinational audience to learn more
about our collective history in order to strengthen
tolerance, knowledge and mutual understanding.
Language(s) spoken: English.
Uprootedness
and exile are among the central literary subjects of
our time. Ms. Gold will present personal insights
about coming out of war-torn Europe as a child,
and trying to understand the new, alien world with
no familiar references. She will discuss alienation,
marginalization, acculturation and bi-cultural
identity. She will also read short fragments from
her memoir about her immigration to America, the
upwardly mobile and competitive "land of milk and
honey."
