WHO:
Hospice Foundation of Palm Beach County, Inc.
WHAT: 30th
anniversary Hospice Evening 2012, honoring
Helen Messic, Honorary Life Chairman
Event begins with a Champagne Reception and the Oscar de la
Renta 2012 collection proudly presented by Saks Fifth
Avenue, Palm Beach. Dinner and dancing follows the fashion
show. The annual Hospice Evening raises money to support the
services of Hospice of Palm Beach County, which provides
expert medical, emotional and spiritual care for individuals
with a life-limiting illness and their loved ones.
The 30th anniversary evening will honor Palm Beach resident
Helen Messic, longtime Hospice Advocate and Honorary Life
Chairman. Twenty-five years ago in November, Hospice of Palm
Beach County broke ground on the Charles W. Gerstenberg
Hospice Center in West Palm Beach - at the time, the only
facility of its kind in the Southeast. Messic is credited
with bringing the first Hospice Center to reality in Palm
Beach County. After watching her brother die of cancer,
Messic realized how important it was for people to not have
to go through such suffering when faced with dying and she
dedicated herself to working to create a comfortable,
homelike place for people who are dying. Seeing how limited
Hospice care was in Palm Beach County, Messic founded the
Hospice Guild, which today is the Palm Beach Membership of
the Hospice Foundation of Palm Beach County, and then led
the charge to create the Gerstenberg Hospice Center and turn
the Center into one of the most successful Hospice's in the
country.
Amanda (Helen Messic's daugther) and Chuck Schumacher are
serving as Chairmen for the Hospice Evening. Cathy and Jack
Flagg are Co-Chairmen, and Lynn Homes and Sharon O'Neil
are Honorary chairmen.
