(PALM
BEACH, FL) --
The American Cancer Society Island of Palm Beach
Unit has announced that reigning Honda Classic
champion and Florida Gator, Camilo Villegas, will be
the guest of honor at the 43rd Annual
American Cancer Society 19th Hole Club
Luncheon and Golf Event at The Breakers’ Flagler
Steakhouse on February 28th, 2011.
Villegas is also known in the golfing community as
“spider-man” for his unique posture when reading
putts. The exciting announcement was made by event
chairman James D. Zahringer during a committee
meeting held on January 18th at the Top
of the Point Club.
"I am thrilled that Camilo Villegas is joining us to
raise money for the fight against cancer," said
Zahringer. “This year’s event is guaranteed to be a
fun and exciting one and I encourage everyone to
practice their putting.”
The day will start at 10:30 a.m. with a golf clinic
followed by a putting contest on the practice green
outside The Flagler Steakhouse. Guests will have
the opportunity to meet Villegas and learn
invaluable golf tips and then one lucky person will
also have the chance to go up against Camilo in a
putting contest. The luncheon and awards ceremony
will immediately follow.
Villegas was born to a family of golfers on January
7, 1982 in Medellin, Colombia, a region not known
for producing such talented golf professionals. His
success throughout the 1990s earned him the
Colombian Golf Federation’s “Player of the Decade”
award. He received Academic All-American honors at
the University of Florida and was awarded the SEC
Player of the Year in 2002 and 2004. Turning pro in
2004, Camilo joined the PGA Tour in 2006. By the
end of his 2008 season, he was ranked 2nd in the
FedEx Cup standings after back-to-back wins at the
BMW Championship and the TOUR Championship. Camilo
finished his 2010 season with 10 top-25 finishes,
including a win at the Honda Classic. For a young
man, Camilo has a serious attitude about fitness -
showing his hard work and determination as one of
the most physically fit players on tour. Camilo
approaches life with consummate control. He
maintains a meticulous conduct on-and-off the course
that demonstrates his attitude and ability to
elevate his game to the next level.
Committee members for the 19th Hole Club
Luncheon and Golf Event are: Roy Apple, Reid Boren,
Ray Celedinas, Richard Connaughton, Mark Cook, Glenn
Criser, Tim Hanlon, Ken Kennerly, Chris Larmoyeux,
Robert Leidy, Homer Marshman, Buddy Marucci, Rob

Weston.
Proceeds raised through the American Cancer
Society’s 19th Hole Club on Palm Beach,
and the support of our generous donors, further the
organization’s mission to eliminate cancer as a
major health problem. The American Cancer Society
combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century
of experience to save lives and end suffering from
cancer. We save lives by helping people stay
well through preventing cancer or detecting it
early; by helping people get well by being
there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis;
by finding cures through investment in ground
breaking discovery; and by fighting back by
rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and
rallying communities worldwide to join the fight. As
the nation’s largest non-governmental investor in
cancer research, contributing about $3.4 billion, we
turn what we know about cancer into what we do.
The 43rd Annual American Cancer Society
19th Hole Club Luncheon and Golf Event is
open to members only and limited seating is
available; memberships range from $750 - $10,000.
