WHAT:
The Harmony Waltz gala is an annual fundraising event
to benefit the Harmony Program, which provides intensive,
daily after-school music lessons to New York City school
children in under-served communities. Harmonyıs unique model
taps the cityıs college and graduate-level music students as
teachers, providing them with professional development
opportunities, first-hand teaching experience, and hourly
stipends for their services. In addition to daily music
lessons, Harmony provides participating children with
musical instruments and access to cultural events, all free
of charge.
The event,
which will be held at the Pierre Hotel, is an elegant
evening of dancing and live music provided by the Park
Avenue Chamber Symphony. The gala will also feature a waltz
demonstration and group lesson by world famous dancer
Melanie LaPatin (So You Think You Can Dance), silent
auction and a special performance by Harmony Program
students, alongside members of the New York Philharmonic.
