Rock legend Bryan Adams will
headline the performance which
will be attended by the great,
the good, and the influential in
the City of London including the
Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress.
Adams live performances have
established him as one of the
world's best rock singers of our
time, performing over 120
concerts a year somewhere in the
world.
The VIP reception, concert and
after-party will be held as a
one-off occasion to raise funds
for Coram, the UK's first-ever
children's charity and RedR the
disaster relief charity, the two
charities chosen by the recently
elected Lord Mayor, Alderman
Michael Bear, as beneficiaries
during his year of office in
2011.
It is hoped that the event will
raise in excess of £200,000 for
the Appeal. As part of the
evening, there will be an
auction to be conducted by
celebrity auctioneer Nick
Nugent, who will be flying in
from Dublin for the occasion.
He originally became famous as
Ireland's leading bloodstock
auctioneer, where his
outstandingly entertaining
performances have led to him
being in demand in fundraising
auctions throughout the world.
The auction will include "money
can't buy" items including, for
instance, the necklace worn by
superstar Angelina Jolie to the
premiere of her recent movie
"Salt". With it will be a
personal note from Angelina
herself to the lucky bidder and
a certificate of authenticity.
The necklace is a beautiful
black spinel piece with 74.35
carats comprising 47 of the
stunning black stones, cushion
shape, set in rose gold, made
for Angelina by her private
jeweller, Robert Procop with
whom she has also developed a
special jewellery collection in
support of her own charity
Education Partnership for
Children of Conflict.
A committee of 150 chaired by
City lawyer, Neil Murray, is
masterminding City Rocks
which will be the first and
biggest of the charitable
happenings to be held during the
Lord Mayor's year of office.
Five co-sponsors are supporting
the event. They are Canary
Wharf Group, two City banks
Eurohypo AG and Westdeutsche
ImmobilienBank AG, Stephenson
Harwood, City law firm, and
waste-to-energy firm, Advanced
Plasma Power.
It is no coincidence that the
date of the event on 22 February
2011 is the eve of the birthday
of Handel, the 18th
century composer. Handel was
one of the first Governors of
Coram, the lead charity for the
Lord Mayor's Appeal, and in his
day he was arguably the first
internationally known music
artist. Music remains an
important part of Coram's
culture ? and music therapy is
an important part of their work
on behalf of vulnerable
children.
Tickets are available at £600
from
cityrocks@coram.org.uk or
City Rocks Box Office: 020 7520
0324. The dress code for the
evening is "Rock Chic", somewhat
different to the normal black
tie or grey suited garb of the
Guildhall's traditionally formal
occasions!
