Dallas Real Estate Icon Ebby Halliday
Celebration to Honor Halliday on her 100th
Birthday
The
Horatio Alger
Association of Distinguished Americans,
Inc. (http://www.horatioalger.org/)
is pleased to announce its concert
event,
Ebby
100, the Ebby Halliday 100th Birthday
Celebration benefiting the Horatio
Alger Association of Distinguished
Americans, Inc. on March 9,
2011 at the
Meyerson
Symphony Center with The
Dallas Symphony Orchestra and
International tenor, Mario Frangoulis.
The event will honor legendary Dallas
entrepreneur and Horatio Alger
Association lifetime member, Ebby
Halliday on her 100th
birthday with a special tribute.
Halliday is well-known for her
determination, business savvy and
entrepreneurial spirit which
drove her to create one of
the most successful real estate
companies in the nation.
" Ebby
is not only an iconic businesswoman and
philanthropist, but she exemplifies the
true Horatio Alger spirit," said Tony
Novelly, president and CEO of the
Horatio Alger Association. "We are
delighted to honor one of our very own
on her 100th birthday as a
way of celebrating six decades of work,
dedication, and giving back to the
community."
Ebby
stumbled upon real estate after
lucratively selling hats in her own Dallas boutique. Her
business was so successful that she was
approached by the husband of one of her
customers about selling 52 of his new
single-family spec houses made of
insulated cement. She made the move to
real estate and went on to build the
largest, independently-owned residential
real estate firm in Texas and one of the largest in the United States.
Today, there are 30 Ebby Halliday real
estate offices with more than 1,600
sales associates. The Ebby Home Team is
ranked as the number one independently
owned residential real estate company in
Dallas/Ft. Worth and Texas
and is ranked number eight independent
nationwide.
As
her namesake company celebrates its 65th
year in the business, Halliday says she
has never forgotten her roots. "My
philosophy came from my mother and
grandparents, who taught me to do my
best, give thanks to God for the
blessing of life itself, practice the
Golden Rule, help those less fortunate,
and reward those who have helped me
along the way. I also try to make
gratitude my most often-used word."
Halliday received the Horatio Alger
Award in 2005. To learn more about her
success story, visit

Former Horatio Alger recipients Roger
Staubach, T. Boone Pickens and H. Ross
Perot will serve as co-chairs. Steven
Durham and his wife Barbara will serve
as the event chairs for the evening.
Steve is the son of the late Charles W.
Durham, a Horatio Alger Member.
The
Horatio Alger event will also honor
Horatio Alger scholars from Texas who have
persevered through personal challenges
and adversities to achieve the Texas
Horatio Alger Scholarship.
Prior to the concert, the scholars will
share their Horatio Alger stories from
the podium so that concert guests can
learn more about the Horatio Alger
mission at work.
The
Horatio Alger Association offers
scholarship opportunities in each state
annually ranging from $2,500 to $20,000.

International Ambassador Mario
Frangoulis will be the featured
performer in a two-hour concert with the
symphony orchestra. Mario Frangoulis has
helped raise awareness of the mission
and programs of the Horatio Alger
Association since April 2006 and was
named International Ambassador of the
Horatio Alger Association in December
2008 because of his love for mentoring
and his ability to relate to teens. Like
characters from the Horatio Alger books,
he has overcome challenges in his own
life, including being separated from his
parents at age four. He often speaks of
how music has been a source of healing
and expression throughout his life.
Mario believes in the mission of the
Association, its scholarship program,
and the power of encouraging people to
strive for their full potential.
Mario is best known for his powerful and
charismatic live performances. After two
highly acclaimed international releases
through Sony Classical, which were
fixtures on the Billboard Classical
Crossover Charts, "Sometimes I Dream"
and "Follow Your Heart," Mario has
continued on a diverse path both in the
studio and through live performances.
This year will mark the release of his
new international album. For more on
