&
10 Year Anniversary Benefit Gala:
"Celebrating Chinese Culture and Freedom of the Press"
Sunday, September 25, 2011, 5:00pm to 9:30pm at Pier Sixty
New Tang Dynasty (NTD) Television’s 4th International
Chinese Culinary Competition is a unique annual 2 day event
which takes place in Times Square designed to showcase the
skills and artistry of master chefs from around the world.
The event attracts over a half a million people a year and
through NTD’s coverage will be broadcast to millions of
people across Europe, North America and Asia via satellite,
cable and the Internet.
More than 1,200 years ago, during the height
of the Tang Dynasty in China, Chang’an was the ultimate
destination of the Silk Road, blending cultural influences
from all across the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. Like New
York City today, Chang’an was truly the capital of the
world. As a stage for the competition, NTD will recreate
this glory, transforming Times Square into the “kitchen
stadium” of Chang-An city, the ancient Tang Dynasty capital
of China.
With this grand vision, over 50 Top chefs
from Asia, North America, and Europe will gather in Times
Square to compete for the coveted Gold Medal title in one of
five major categories of Szechuan, Shandong, Cantonese,
Huaiyang and Northeastern Chinese cuisines.
Commencing at 9am each day, the competition will be
divided into 8 rounds a day of between 45 minutes to an
hour. In each round, 5 chefs will cook in spectacular open
air mobile kitchens decked with ancient pagoda roofs in
front of a live audience and TV crew.
Alongside waiters donning specially designed
traditional Chinese costumes, onsite emcees will introduce
the chefs and provide colorful commentary throughout the
competition, highlighting the exquisite culinary culture of
traditional Chinese food and the health benefits of
different ingredients. Referees will oversee the food
preparation process and judges will select the finalists and
winners.
Celebrity Cook Off And Emperor’s Feast in
Times Square!
A “Celebrity Cook Off - Iron Chef Meets Iron Wok!” 15 minute
quick fire round, separate from the main competition, will
be at the end of each day at 7pm. Celebrities and celebrity
chefs will be invited to showcase their best ‘Kung Pao
Chicken’ type dish. Special VIP patrons will
be offered a unique chance to taste these creations as well
as other special Chinese culinary delights prepared by
select chefs in the same mobile pagoda roofed kitchens. An
“Emperor’s Feast” in the middle of Times Square will no
doubt be the talk of the town.
This event aims to revive traditional Chinese
culinary culture, as the world’s best chefs compete for
different prizes, including cash prizes of US$70,000. Since
the date of the first competition in 2007, the event has
grown into the premier global Chinese culinary
competition.
The Times Square culinary competition will
culminate on Sunday September 25th with
NTD’s 10 Year Anniversary Benefit Gala—“The
Emperor’s Banquet: Celebrating the Best of Chinese
Cuisine, Culture and Freedom of the Press.”
Winners will prepare a sumptuous 10 course banquet,
featuring the best dishes of each of the 5 major Chinese
