Split Rock Golf Course
is a championship caliber John Van Kleek classic design. A
shot-makers course, it is a challenge that forces golfers to
use every club in the bag. Split Rock Golf Course is
located just off the Hutchinson River Parkway near City
Island. It's a very tight and hilly course with a very
demanding back nine. Split Rock Golf Course is arguably one
of the best and most challenging designs in NYC. Great
Scottish links style holes with tricky putting greens. The
15, 16, and 17 holes on Split Rock are called NYC's "Amen
Corner." The Split Rock Golf Course was built with WPA funds
by New York City Department of Parks in 1936. Often compared
to Bethpage Black, Split Rock has recently undergone a major
renovation.
The Xavier Society for
the Blind provides religious and spiritual materials in
audio, large-print, and Braille formats primarily but not
solely, in the Roman Catholic tradition to anyone with
visual impairment or who is unable to handle traditional
print. Since 1900 they have provided these services at no
cost to their clients throughout New York and New Jersey.
Through the Veterans Outreach the Society seeks to offer
comfort and support to those men and women who have served
our country and now find themselves losing their sight
either due to injury or age.
