“HAVANA
NIGHTS”
Ruth Rales JFS Gala
& Auction to Honor
Larry Phillips
A “journey” to the classic tropical elegance of
mid-century Havana is in store at this year’s Ruth
Rales Jewish Family Service (JFS) Annual Gala and
Auction
on December 8, 2011.
Starting at 6:30 pm,
more than 300 prominent guests will enjoy a
luxurious,
fun-filled evening at St. Andrews Country Club in
Boca Raton.
“From the spirited cocktail reception and dinner to
our lively entertainment, auctions and dancing, our
guests are in for a ‘Havana Night’ to remember,”
said Vicki Weinstein, who is co-chairing the Gala
with Lisa Goodman. “They’ll also be bidding away on
a dazzling array of luxury items including exquisite
jewelry and fashions, sports memorabilia and travel
and sports packages.”
“With requests for food and financial assistance,
senior services, counseling and mental health care
continuing to rise, JFS must rely on the community’s
compassion and generosity more than ever,” added
Goodman. “This past year alone brought a 70%
increase in Holocaust survivor assistance clients
and a 20% rise in food pantry recipients. As our
major yearly fundraiser, the Gala is critical to JFS
continuing to meet the needs of South Palm Beach
County families and individuals.”
Local philanthropist Larry Phillips will be honored
as recipient of the 2011 Ruth and Norman Rales
Humanitarian Award. “We are proud to recognize the
profound difference Larry Phillips has made in so
many areas through his leadership, inspiration and
generosity,” said Laurence I. Blair, JFS Chair. “A
true visionary, Larry’s compassion and dedication
reach from our Jewish community into Israel and
across the globe. Renowned internationally as the
founder of American Jewish World Service, here at
JFS he has most recently been instrumental to our
new Weisman Delray Community Center.”
Honorary Co-chairs are Isabelle and Arnie Friedman,
Judi and Craig Donoff, and Wendy and Wayne Legum.
Supporters include Leadership Sponsors: Meryl and
