Organization Description:
This year the Dallas County Medical
Society Alliance is celebrating our 95th birthday! Organized
in 1917, we are the oldest continuously operating Alliance
in the country. We were instrumental in forming both the
state and national Alliances. As an active group of
physicians’ spouses and physicians, we remain true to our
goals of supporting medicine, promoting health education,
and providing enrichment and educational opportunities for
our members while developing lasting friendships. Our home
is the historic Aldredge House on Swiss Avenue in Old East
Dallas. The Dallas County Medical Society Alliance has a
rich heritage of nine decades of community service and
support.
Over the years
we have partnered with the Dallas County Medical Society. In
1984 we started annual Health Check. Through the years at
NorthPark over 1,000,000 attendees came. We have done
Community Health Fairs for the last two years in partnership
with Church of the Incarnation and in the last two years
have provided free immunizations, bicycle helmets, sports
physicals and health screenings to over 500 people. In the
last 18 years we have given over $780,000.00 to Edith Cavell
Nursing Scholarships, Community Health fairs, VNA, The
Science Place, Aldredge House, Stewpot, Wilkensen Center and
many other non-profit beneficiaries.
Project Description:
On April 14, 2012, The Dallas County
Medical Society Alliance will be hosting a Amazing Pace
Family Friendly
Fitness Adventure Bike and Fun Run
promoting
healthy lifestyles through outdoor fitness and fun. The
event will be a blend of cycling and running for all ages
including entire families utilizing some of Dallas new
biking trails and paths.
This event benefits the DCMSAF and The
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). DCMSAF hosts a
Community Health Fair offering free immunizations, sports
physicals, bicycles, bicycle helmets, health screenings and
“Ask the Doctor” booths for low income families. We also
grant Edith Cavell Nursing Scholarships which provide funds
for tuition and books to worthy nursing students in Dallas.
Our home is the historic Aldredge House on Swiss Avenue.
DCMSA is the oldest Medical Alliance in the country. We were
founded in 1917.
The Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundation (JDRF) is an organization founded on and driven
by a single goal: to find a cure for diabetes and its
complications through the support of research.
In 1970, a small group of parents made
a promise to their children-to find a cure for diabetes and
its complications. Today the passionate activism continues
to drive the organization as it works diligently towards a
cure. JDRF is structured on a business world model that
efficiently and effectively directs resources to the
research aimed at finding a cure as soon as possible. JDRF
annually receives top ranking from independent sources that
rate charitable giving.
JDRF is the
worldwide leader in funding research to cure type 1, an
autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults suddenly
and lasts a lifetime. JDRF is the leading funder and
advocate of type 1 diabetes science. The mission of JDRF is
to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through
the support of research.
