CARP, Inc. to hold the
17th Annual Spring Luncheon and
Cathleen McFarlanE Ross Emeritus Award presentation
GUEST SPEAKER WILL BE CHRISTOPHER KENNEDY LAWFORD,
actor, writer, lawyer, activist and public speaker
West Palm Beach, FL – On Sunday, February 5,
2012 CARP, Inc. (Comprehensive Alcoholism Rehabilitation
Programs) will hold its 17th Annual Spring Luncheon and
Cathleen McFarlane Ross Award Presentation at the Ritz
Carlton Palm Beach in Manalapan, Florida.
This year’s featured speaker is Christopher Kennedy Lawford,
author, actor and activist. Barbara Katz, Dr. William Adkins
and Xiomara Ordoñez chair the event. Park Miller, Patty Dean
and Margaret Donnelley will serve as Honorary Chairpersons.
The Cathleen McFarlane Ross Emeritus Award is awarded to an
individual or corporation that has exhibited exceptional
effort in working with and supporting the recovery
community. Her husband, Walter Ross, and her daughter,
Bridget Healey, will present
the award.
Speaker Christopher Kennedy Lawford has spent much of his
life in Hollywood and Washington, navigating these two
worlds as an actor, writer, lawyer, activist and public
speaker. However, before his successes, Lawford battled a
drug and alcohol addiction for much of his early life. In
recovery for more than 24 years, he shares his experience,
strength and hope to make a difference in people’s lives.
Presently Mr. Lawford is working with the United Nations,
the Canadian Center on Substance Abuse, and the World Health
Organization in efforts to raise awareness globally about
addiction and hepatitis.
Mr. Lawford’s speech will focus on changing people’s view of
alcohol and drug abuse and that it is a public health issue
and not a stigma. Mr. Lawford states, “Addicts can be
treated and live a better life through recovery. “If you
really have to overcome something, you not only appreciate
life, but you have wisdom and you can really achieve great
things.”
Executive Director and CEO of CARP, Inc., Robert P. Bozzone
wants to make sure that the focus of the event to be on the
population that is served and not just to be another
fundraising gala. According to Mr. Bozzone, “The purpose of
CARP is to serve those who have lost everything because of
chronic addiction disorder and have no other alternatives,
and no place else to turn. CARP gives them that opportunity
to turn their lives around.”
All CARP treatment services are based on a sliding scale and
no one is turned away solely on the inability to pay. CARP’s
funding comes from state, county and local funding but much
more is needed to fill the gap between what clients are able
to pay and what it costs to run the programs. In 2010-2011
alone, CARP treated 4221 unduplicated clients with the 93%
of the clients presenting at or below the poverty level.
Mr. Lawford explains, “CARP does amazing work
for folks who need services and does it on a level where it
affects people from all different kinds of economic
backgrounds. It is critical that these organizations are
supported and that we do everything we can in order to get
their attention, so people can see the kind of work they’re
doing, so that they contribute.”
This Spring Luncheon is one of the major events CARP holds
each year to raise much-needed funds to help those
struggling with addiction. CARP Inc., now in its 44th year,
offers individualized care to clients with alcohol and
substance abuse problems and their families achieve an
abstinence-based recovery.
Tickets to this event are $150 each or a table of 10 is
$1500. Sponsorships are also available. The event includes a
silent auction.. Donations are welcome. To find out more
