Announces Grant Awards
2012 Allocations Total $107,000+; Since 2003,
JWF Has Granted Nearly $440,000
The cutting-edge,
hands-on philanthropists of the Jewish Women’s Foundation of
South Palm Beach County (JWF) invite women of all ages to
join them in celebrating their more than $107,000 in 2012
program awards, and to hear from Entrepreneur of the Year, a
“Top 10 Most Powerful Mom,” Gilt Groupe Co-founder and Chief
Merchandising Officer, and fashion industry powerhouse
Alexandra Wilkis Wilson (bio below). This year’s Granting
Wishes Reception will be held at 5:00 pm on March 5, 2012,
at the elegant Boca Rio Country Club, 22041 Boca Rio Road,
Boca Raton.
“As cutting edge philanthropists committed to helping women
and girls break through barriers, we’re very excited to
offer the community a powerful young speaker who has been on
the cutting edge of fashion and online entrepreneurship, and
who has dedicated herself to mentorship and philanthropy,”
said Judith Temple, Chair of the event. “Alexandra will
share her insights on how to develop a dream idea into a
successful, thriving business. Only three and a half years
old, Gilt Groupe was valued at $1 billion last spring.
She’ll also let us inside to learn about the hand-selected
items that adorn the fabulously famous luxury web site
www.gilt.com .
Local businesses will also have a prime opportunity to
connect first-hand with Gilt Groupe and their regional
company Gilt City – Miami, which works with an extremely
selective, high-profile luxury vendors list of travel
services, restaurants, shops, salons and far more. All
attendees will have the chance to win a gift certificate for
Gilt City – Miami and enjoy some give-away goodies. They’ll
also have the opportunity to pre-purchase pre-released
copies of Alexandra’s book, By Invitation Only: How We Built
Gilt Groupe and Changed the Way Millions Shop; which
includes an autographed galley copy.
“We’re also delighted to be announcing JWF’s new 2012 grant
recipients, and to demonstrate how our combined dollars,
careful research and shared funding decisions will be
helping so many in the coming year,” said JWF Co-chair Mara
Reuben. “JWF’s hands-on, independent philanthropists, called
Trustees, serve as equal partners in selecting and
supporting programs that address their most passionate
concerns in our own community and overseas. It’s remarkably
satisfying to pool our resources, decide together how to
direct them and see the impact.”
“For 2012, we have allocated $107,250 to seven worthy
initiatives in South Palm Beach County and Israel, in the
areas of abuse prevention, educational opportunities, and
health and welfare,” said JWF Co-chair Ann Kelman. “Founded
by Roxane Frechie Lipton in 2003, the local JWF has so far
granted nearly $440,000 to organizations that work to
improve the lives of Jewish women
and girls.”
“This year, for the first time, we have joined in a
collaborative grant with sixteen other foundations, each
contributing $10,000 over two years,” continued Kelman. “In
addition to allocating a total award of $170,000 to a vital
project, this grant making initiative has brought together
JWFs from across the country to share research, experiences,
best practices and fundraising ideas in a true
‘think tank.’”
The Granting Wishes event couvert is $60, which includes an
abundant array of hors d’oeuvres, stations, desserts, wine
and soft drinks. Dietary laws will be observed. To register,
