Lauren Bush Lauren to be Honored at
Refugees International’s 33rd Anniversary Dinner
Washington, D.C.
-- Refugees International (RI) announced today that
social entrepreneur Lauren Bush Lauren is this year’s
recipient of the organization’s highest honor, the
McCall-Pierpaoli Humanitarian Award. The award
recognizes those who have demonstrated extraordinary
leadership and commitment to humanitarian action, and
will be presented by HM Queen Noor of Jordan.
“It’s such a privilege to be
receiving this honor from Refugees International,” said
Mrs. Lauren, Co-Founder and Chief FEEDer of
FEED Projects. “In so many countries around the
world, displaced families live with the constant threat
of malnutrition and starvation. RI has worked tirelessly
to get these populations the assistance they need. And
this past year in particular, during the famine in the
Horn of Africa, RI’s independent advocacy was absolutely
critical.”
While serving as Honorary Spokesman
for the World Food Programme (WFP) in 2004, Lauren Bush
Lauren was inspired to create the FEED 1 bag, the
proceeds of which provide a child with school meals for
an entire year. Since 2007, FEED Projects has
contributed over $6 million to the WFP’s school feeding
program – or more than 68 million meals for school
children – through the sale of its eco-friendly line of
products. Mrs. Lauren also serves as Chairman of the
Board of
FEED Foundation, which supports sustainable
solutions to food, nutrition, and agricultural
challenges worldwide.
“Lauren Bush Lauren is a truly
inspiring young leader,” said Michel Gabaudan, President
of Refugees International. “From our years of work with
displaced families, we know that school meals are
critical to keeping children healthy and in the
classroom. In her brief career, Mrs. Lauren has used the
power of social entrepreneurship to deliver this
critical assistance to thousands of children. We are
thrilled to be honoring her this year.”
Mrs. Lauren will be presented with
the McCall-Pierpaoli Humanitarian Award at Refugees
International’s 33rd Anniversary Dinner. The dinner will
be held on Thursday, May 10th, at the Mellon Auditorium
in Washington, D.C. For more information about the
