Teaneck’s Memorial Day “Family Fun Festival"
Teaneck Mayor Mohammed Hameeduddin

Teaneck Mayor Mohammed Hameeduddin and Teaneck Vietnam War veterans Walt Nygard (US Marines) and Jan Barry (US Army) will be special Guests of Honor at Teaneck’s Memorial Day “Family Fun Festival,”
presented annually by the Cedar Lane Management Group, on Monday, May 28, from 11 AM to 6 PM. They will be honored at a Special Memorial Day Veterans Tribute and Opening Ceremony which will begin at 12:15 PM on the Festival Performance Stage at the intersection of Cedar Laneand Elm Street.  Many local and state officials will participate in the ceremony.


The ceremony will begin with Opening Remarks by Cedar Lane Management Group
President Karen Careccio . Mayor Hameeduddin will be presented with the organization’s
3rd Annual Lifetime Achievement Award
and Nygard and Barry will be the recipients of the organization’s annual Awards of Appreciation.  Soprano Cheryl Warfield, whose father served in the Philippines during World War II, will perform the National Anthem and “God Bless America.”  
Prior to the Opening Ceremony, at 11 AM, Teaneck’s local veterans’ organizations will hold their
Annual Memorial Day Remembrance Service in honor of their fallen comrades at Teaneck’s Municipal Green.

           The Opening Ceremony will kick off a day full of exciting and fun activities for members of the entire familyalong Cedar Lane from American Legion Drive to Elm Avenue, Teaneck’s main business district. There is free admission and free parking in three nearby Municipal Lots. Families from the tri-state area are invited to attend the Festival which is just 20 minutes from midtown Manhattan. Local bus and train service is readily available.

                By 11 AM, approximately local merchants and outside vendors will have completed
setting up their display  booths and stalls  on both sides of Cedar Lane, and will be ready to offer
great shopping opportunities, arts and crafts, clothing, collectibles and international and ethnic foods
for all those attending the Festival. Local restaurants and cafes will also be open and available to
hungry festival attendees. A special area featuring children’s activities, including face painters,
balloon artists, games and rides, will be located on Garrison Avenue just off Cedar Lane.

               There will be two fun eating competitions offering cash prizes to the winners.
At 1:00 PM, kids between
the ages of 9 and 12 will gather on Cedar Lane at Chestnut Avenue Plaza to compete in a fun-filled Cupcake Eating Competition sponsored by Teaneck’s Zoe’s Cupcake Café, 740 Chestnut Avenue . The young contestants will have to compete without using their hands (which must be positioned behind their backs). Prizes will be awarded to the kid who eats the most cupcakes in an eight-minute period. A second prize will be given to the youngster who has the dirtiest face at the end of the contest! Kids can sign up at the store on the day of the event or they can register in advance by calling 212/764-6330. 100% of Zoe’s Cupcake Café’s net proceeds support programs for pregnant teens, teen moms and children of Zoe’s Place, a non-profit organization founded by women committed to making a difference in the lives of Bergen County pregnant teens. teen mothers and their babies.
