Somerset, NJ - The
Center for Great Expectations, a residential treatment
center for homeless, pregnant and parenting women and
adolescents, and their children, will hold their annual gala
at Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club in Bedminster on Friday
evening, October 26, 2012. Entertainment will include the
popular music of the Greaseband and a silent auction.
Generous gifts to be auctioned include vacation homes in
Napa Valley, Puerto Vallarta, and Shawnee, Pa; tickets to
Prudential Center events and NY Giants games; jewelry, furs,
toys, electronics and more.
This year’s Gala Honoree is Ron Ladell, Senior Vice
President of AvalonBay Communities, who is receiving the
Humanitarian of the Year award for his support of the
Center’s Permanent Supportive Housing initiative. Msgr.
David I. Fulton, administrative officer of St. Mary’s
Seminary and University, and Pastor Emeritus of Our Lady of
Victories in Baptistown, will receive the Center’s
Outstanding Service award for his long time support of the
Center’s mission. Marie Gallo, long time volunteer at the
Center and parishioner of St. Matthias Church in Somerset,
is also being honored for her dedicated service to the
Center and its families.
“The women and adolescents who come to the Center have a
variety of issues, many of which originate from their abuse
during childhood. They are now homeless, pregnant and with
children. They struggle with substance use and/or mental
health disorders,” said Peg Wright, the Center’s President.
“The Center’s housing, effective recovery programs, and
onsite childcare gives them a safe place, safe presence, and
safe path so they can move forward.”
The organization, which serves all of New Jersey, attributes
its success to their skilled clinical staff and the support
from their donors, grantors, and volunteers. The Center will
be introducing its first units of Permanent Supportive
Housing later this month through the collaboration of Mr.
Ladell and AvalonSomerset. With hundreds of women each year
placed on a waiting list, the Center hopes to expand its
successful treatment model, focusing on its Outpatient
Services Program, currently located at the St. Peter’s
University Hospital Clinic in New Brunswick.
