The 2014 observance of Tartan Day on Ellis
Island opens NY Tartan Week on Friday, March 28 and will
feature an exhibition on Scots in the American West. The
exhibition illuminates the role that the Scots and
Scotch-Irish played in opening the American West. Visitors
will learn the stories of John Muir, Buffalo Bill Cody,
Alan Pinkerton and Alexander Mackenzie, among others.

The exhibition, hosted by the Clan Currie
Society and produced by the Buffalo Bill Center of the West,
Cody, Wyoming in partnership with the National Trust for
Scotland Foundation - USA and the Smithsonian
Institution runs through Sunday, March 30. To commemorate
National Tartan Day, Ellis Island will also play host to a
company of pipers, drummers, Highland Dancers, storytellers
and more. Admission is free.
