Hundred Black Men, Inc. of New York City,
announced today the honorees for the 34thAnnual
Benefit Gala, which will be held on Thursday, February 27 at
the New York Hilton Hotel.
This
year’s honorees are:

Basil A. Paterson,
Partner, Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein
· William
F. Pickard, Ph.D.,
Chairman and CEO, Global Automotive Alliance
· Rev.
Hilton O. Smith, Senior
Vice President, National Community Affairs at Turner
Construction Company
Derrick Barnes will also be honored as “Mentor of the Year.”
Gala
Co-Chairs are Robert B. Brown and Michael J. Garner. Peter
Davoren, President & Chief Executive Officer, Turner
Construction Company is the Corporate Co-Chair. The Gala
Committee consists of Will Brown, Jr., Chair, Journal
Committee; Frederick Davis, Jr. and Tyrone Terrence
McKinney.
Dari
Alexander, anchor of Fox 5 News, Michelle Miller,
correspondent for CBS News and David Ushery, anchor/reporter
and host of NBC’s The
Debrief, will be the co-emcees of the black tie
fundraiser that features a cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m.
followed by dinner, awards program and entertainment at 7:30
p.m.
ABOUT
THE 2014 HONOREES
As the
highest ranking Delta executive based in New York, Gail
Grimmett is
charged with developing and achieving Delta’s key strategic
objectives for New York State. Within this role, she is
responsible for the financial performance of all of Delta’s
New York routes and oversees all commercial functions at the
airports. She also directs Delta’s state and local
government affairs efforts within the state. During the four
years Grimmett has been in New York, she has led Delta’s
cross-functional team to reach an agreement with the Port
Authority of New York and New Jersey on a $1.4 billion USD
terminal redevelopment program at John F. Kennedy
International Airport. She also presided over the largest
hub expansion in 40 years at nearby LaGuardia Airport –
doubling Delta’s overall capacity out of that airport in
July 2012. Delta’s growth and commitment to New York has not
gone unnoticed and as such, in 2011, Gov. Andrew Cuomo
appointed Grimmett to the New York State Tourism Council and
selected her to serve on his Regional Economic Redevelopment
Council for New York City.
Hon.
Basil A. Paterson is
a Member of the law firm of Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein,
P.C. and personally represents Local 1199/SEIU and the
United Federation of Teachers. In 2013, Paterson was
appointed by the New York State Senate to serve as a
Commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New
Jersey to assist with critical reforms at the organization.
Paterson has served as New York’s Secretary of State and as
New York City Deputy Mayor for Labor Relations and
Personnel. He has also served as a New York State Senator,
Vice Chairperson of the Democratic National Committee, and
as a Commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New
Jersey. Mr. Paterson chaired the New York City Mayor’s
Judiciary Committee for four years and the New York State
Governor’s Judicial Screening Panel for the Second
Department for eight years. He ended his tenure at the
Commission on Judicial Nominations after serving for twelve
years.
William F. Pickard, PhD is
Chairman and CEO, Global Automotive Alliance, a group of six
manufacturing entities with eight facilities in the United
States and Canada. He is recognized by the automotive
industry for masterminding the first minority-owned group of
tier-one and tier-two plastic parts suppliers to service the
top three U.S. automakers. Pickard established Alliance in
1999 and by 2011 employed more than 1,600 people and
generated more than $400 million in sales by leveraging
joint ventures with larger companies. Other companies guided
by Dr. Pickard include VITEC, LLC and Bearwood Management
Company, where he is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer,
and MGM Grand Detroit Casino where he is a partner.
As
Senior Vice President for National Community Affairs at
Turner Construction Company, Rev. Hilton
O. Smith’s duties
include managing the company’s corporate and national
community affairs, minority and woman owned business
enterprise program, equal employment and educational
programs. He coordinates business development and strategic
marketing programs with senior executive officers within the
company. Mr. Smith has actively led Turner’s efforts in
awarding more than $22 billion dollars to thousands of
minority and woman owned business enterprises. For eight
years, Turner has reached the $1 billion dollar mark in its
MWBE utilization program. Mr. Smith has appeared in the
Congressional Record several times for professional
successes and most importantly, his work on MWBE
Utilization. Smith is also the president of the Cleveland
Branch NAACP and a NAACP Diamond Life member. He is an
Associate Minister at The Greater Abyssinia Baptist Church.

ONE HUNDRED BLACK MEN
One
Hundred Black Men, Inc. of New York City was founded in 1963
when a group of successful African-American men came
together to pool their resources to positively impact the
Black community.
One
Hundred Black Men, Inc.’s service projects focus on mentoring,
education, health and wellness, and economic development. The

with its corporate and community partners to make
significant differences in the lives of the communities it
serves. A celebrated example is the establishment of The Eagle
Academy for Young Men in
the Bronx, with a focus on academic excellence, leadership
