The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is proud to announce that
John F. Scarpa will chair the Annual Palm Beach Gala. The gala
will take place on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at The Mar-a-Lago
Club in Palm Beach.
“We are extremely honored to welcome Mr. Scarpa as our 2014 Gala
Chairman. His esteemed reputation is built on a deep and
enduring commitment to help improve the lives of others. With
his leadership and expertise, we will be even closer to a world
without blood cancer. We are privileged that he has chosen to
support the lifesaving mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma
Society,” said Pamela Payne, Executive Director of the LLS’s
Palm Beach Area Chapter.
Mr. Scarpa is a co-founder of American Cellular Network
Corporation and pioneered the development and operation of
cellular telephone and cable television systems throughout the
United States. Through the John F. Scarpa Foundation, he is a
dedicated philanthropist, primarily in the fields of education,
healthcare and disadvantaged families. He is the principal
benefactor of the Frank and Edith Scarpa Regional Cancer Center
in Vineland, NJ. Mr. Scarpa serves on the board of directors of
the Town of Palm Beach United Way and is the president of the
board of directors for Palm Beach Police Foundation. He served
as a director of the Palm Beach Fellowship of Christians and
Jews and provided financing to restore the historic Paramount
Theater in Palm Beach. Mr. Scarpa has received honorary
doctorates from the American University of Rome and from
Villanova Law School, and he established the John F. Scarpa
Chair in Catholic Legal Studies. He has received the Ellis
Island Medal of Honor (2010) and the National Italian American
Foundation Special Award for Entrepreneurial Spirit (2008).
All proceeds from the Annual Palm Beach Gala will benefit LLS’s
mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and
myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their
families. While this event will raise funds for lifesaving blood
cancer research, it will also help support our local patients
and their families by providing critically-needed financial aid.
